Since 1938, Indiana Hillel has been the center of Jewish life on campus in Bloomington, IN. We seek a visionary leader to step into the role of Executive Director and spearhead the next chapter of success at this vibrant center for Jewish life on campus.

As the incoming Executive Director, you will shape the trajectory of Indiana Hillel for the next decade. Your mandate will include rebuilding and reimagining the student engagement model, keeping strong ties to the University administration, and leading the capital campaign to fund the construction of our new building In this pivotal position, you will serve as the organizations north star, overseeing a dedicated team of professionals and managing a budget of $1 million. The ideal candidate for this role will find inspiration and excitement in leading and rebuilding a nationally recognized operation on a Big 10 campus.

What Youll Do: Strategy & Vision:

Lead the organization in achieving its vision and strategic planning initiatives. Act as a leader and unifier of the community every day, including during times of both celebration and challenge. Inspire and organize pluralistic, diverse Jewish life on campus.

Develop strategies to expand the Jewish student community, accommodating a range of backgrounds and interests. Lead the organization in weaving Jewish values and Jewish knowledge into the fabric of the organization. Fundraising & Financial Management:

Create, drive, and oversee a fundraising strategy that leverages the local and national network of community members, alumni, and parents to support IU Hillel. Personally engage in fundraising with major donors and grant organizations and develop additional and innovative revenue sources. Develop financial resources appropriate for the institutions caliber, the Jewish communitys size, and the strategic plans needs.

Develop, take on new projects, and manage the financial resources needed to implement these initiatives and projects. Oversee fiscal budgeting, financial forecasting, day-to-day financial management, and year-end audits and taxes. Staff Supervision & Development:

Develop and nurture staff, student interns, and student leadership by effectively managing the team and providing growth opportunities. Be the architect of professional growth, leading and mentoring a team that breathes life into our vision of pluralism, inclusivity, and student leadership development. Foster a positive work environment, delegate effectively, and support staff in work assignments and priorities.

Stakeholder & External Relations: Extend your influence cultivating relationships with IU administration, the local Jewish community leaders, and nationwide alumni and parents. Bridge and develop strategic relationships with organizations and departments on campus, especially the Jewish Studies Department, and throughout the local community.

Create a culture of shared responsibility and engagement among members of the board of directors and cultivate relationships with prospective board members who can provide generative and strategic leadership. Build strong partnerships within the Indianapolis Jewish Community. Student Engagement & Jewish Life:

Serve as an inspiring Jewish role model and a strong leader for students. Build strong and engaging Jewish and educational opportunities. Cultivate meaningful relationships with students and ensure all Jewish students feel welcome.

Ensure the student engagement strategy is dynamic, inclusive, and successful in meeting its goals. Recognize and adapt to the changing needs of Jewish college students, Jewish identity development, and campus climate. Ensure IU Hillel is a safe space for students, addressing antisemitism and anti-Israel activities on campus.

What you’ve accomplished: A minimum of 8 years of professional work experience with a minimum of 5 years in a management role in a Jewish or secular nonprofit, higher education, or mission-driven organization. Past Hillel experience is preferred.

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or Rabbinic ordination preferred. A minimum of 5 years of fundraising and financial management experience for a non-profit organization in a professional or volunteer capacity. What you’ll bring to the job:

Strong relationship-building skills and comfort working with diverse populations. An attitude of proactive communication and collaboration across offices and agencies. Board engagement, development, and management skills.

Effective “story-telling” – developing and communicating (both orally and in writing) the organizational mission and narrative. Strong public speaking skills. Able to lead complex conversations about Judaism, Jewish identity, and Israel in an approachable way and meet students at various points in their Jewish journey.

What you’ll receive: Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $135,000-$155,000, commensurate with experience.
