Hospitality Employees Advancement and Training (HEAT, Inc.) is a small nonprofit organization providing training for quality jobs in South Florida’s vibrant and growing hospitality sector. We are seeking an Executive Director who will take our work and organization to the next level as we build new pathways to hospitality careers for underserved local communities.
HEAT, Inc. is located in Miami’s Historic Overtown neighborhood and we work closely with local community leaders, the Community Redevelopment Agency, UNITE HERE Local 355 and major hospitality employers.
We’re looking for the right person to tackle these primary responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of HEAT’s operations and programming
- Develop and manage effective relationships with formal and informal community networks, unions, employers, government, community and social services agencies
- Develop and implement organizational work plans to achieve program objectives
- Identify grant opportunities and prepare grant applications to expand HEAT's funding capacity
- Set standards and mechanisms to meet deliverables and program deadlines
- Lead the development and implementation of outreach and recruitment efforts to targeted communities
- Lead the organization’s communications and public relations efforts
- Manage the two-person staff by providing direction, coaching, ongoing feedback, and regular evaluation
- Ensure fiscal, regulatory and programmatic compliance in a highly regulated environment
- Lead the organization’s fiscal, board, programmatic and public reporting
- Work with an outside accountant to ensure proper financial recording and compliance
- Support HEAT, Inc.’s Board of Directors in maintaining effective budgeting, policy, reporting, compliance and governance procedures
Requirements
The qualifications for this role are:
- Genuine commitment and sensitivity to worker and community issues
- Respect for economic and cultural diversity; experience leading diverse teams
- High motivation and enthusiasm about HEAT’s mission
- 5+ years of significant leadership experience at a program and/or organization dedicated to workers’ rights, labor, civil rights, or immigrant rights and advocacy.
- Master's or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Financial management experience, Including budgeting and reporting
- Experience managing public and private grants and meeting high standards of programmatic and fiscal compliance
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills; comfort with public speaking
- Experience working collaboratively with a Board of Directors

Benefits
The annual salary for this role is $85,000-$90,000, depending on experience. Benefits Include 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision premium; retirement benefits; and generous paid time off.
