  • The Executive Director of External and Crisis Communications will oversee and manage the district's communication outreach efforts, including crisis and preemptive communications, media and public relations, engagement strategies for social and digital mediums, online publications, ongoing district events and related activities for all schools and central offices. This position will oversee budget and ensure quality control of all information released and monitor progress toward goal achievement.

  • Develop and manage strategic communications with media and external channels to generate student, staff, and district storytelling opportunities to align and enhance the district's overall brand among audiences.

  • Build, cultivate and monitor external public relations and digital communication strategies that promote the district and increases positive perception among the district's families, partners, civic groups, and Dallas ISD community.

  • Oversee the district's Media Relations, Online Newsroom, Social Media and Web departments to guide and ensure efforts, strategies and messaging align with department goals.

  • Lead districtwide crisis communication tactics, serving as the 24-hour, on-call communications expert for developing appropriate responses that inform stakeholder groups and manage the district message, while serving as a district spokesperson.

  • Develop and manage crisis response reporting framework to include fact gathering, message development and dissemination, and response review process for all campuses, staff, and departments.

  • Coach all principals, departments, and other key staff to respond appropriately and manage the message through crisis situations and general story development that highlights the work of the district.

  • Craft and distribute talking points for the superintendent, all schools and central staff, trustee notices, official statements, and media responses for media events, interviews, and inquiries.

  • Direct the development of collateral such as news releases, newsroom stories,

  • social media content and maintain appropriate internal workflows to further guide the creative storytelling process for all audiences.

  • Liaise with senior staff to manage and oversee multiple projects, various events, including work distribution, timelines, and product delivery in a responsive manner.

  • Develop and manage general operation budget and contracts.

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university. Master's Degree from an accredited university preferred.

  • Communications, journalism, marketing, or public relations.

  • 10 direct experience in Communications, crisis, media, external and/or public relations.

  • Must have experience in managing communications with a proven ability to build relationships and engage external stakeholder groups for a complex organization.

  • Must be highly creative and able to think outside the norm and lead team members to develop fresh content and strategies.

  • Must have an extensive list of media contacts with strong crisis/issues management skills.

  • Must be available to mobilize and respond at a moments' notice outside of regular business day.

  • Must work well under pressure in fast-paced environments.

  • Must have experience supervising employees and budget management.

  • Experience working with high-level administrators, leadership teams and handling information of a confidential and sensitive nature.

  • Proven ability to work well with others demonstrating the district's Core 4 values, in deadline situations and handle stressful situations.
