Job Description

Administrative Faculty Contract. Non Tenure Track, Benefits Eligible.

This role involves delivering comprehensive administrative assistance to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs. Responsibilities encompass proficiently coordinating the Vice President's schedule, furnishing essential information for decision-making, and addressing and resolving issues and challenges.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess prior experience in adeptly managing interactions with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, NSHE system staff, government officials, commissioners, board members, and the broader community. Essential skills include the ability to multitask, prioritize, organize, independently exercise sound judgment, uphold confidentiality, take initiative, and demonstrate flexibility and professionalism consistently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional and confidential technical support to the Vice President in matters pertaining to Western Nevada College (WNC) and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), leveraging expertise in specific procedures, processes, regulations, and best practices.

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of WNC and NSHE policies, rules, and regulations.

  • Interpret policies and procedures in unique situations, making independent decisions on the most suitable course of action.

  • Uphold confidentiality and diplomacy, coordinate priorities, and proactively manage the smooth workflow within the office.

  • Oversee the vice president's office, including the assignment of tasks, supervision, and evaluation of support staff.

  • Serve as the liaison for the vice president, fostering effective communication and collaboration.

  • Initiate clear and concise correspondence, reports, and verbal communications.

  • Manage the department budget, providing guidance to Academic and Student Services personnel on budget-related matters such as travel, purchase orders, contracts, and host expenditures.

  • Assist the vice president in preparing research projects, accreditation visits, program monitoring, and curricular presentations.

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate special events hosted by the vice president.

  • Act as the oversight for academic scheduling.

  • Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with WNC faculty, staff, and administrators.

  • Actively participate in program reviews and assessments.

  • Represent the office on college and system-wide committees.

  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in handling sensitive issues with utmost confidentiality.

  • Adept in utilizing a range of current software applications, including, but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OnBase, Workday, PeopleSoft, Lynx, and Google Suite.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all academic and student affairs processes and procedures.

  • Meticulous attention to detail.

  • Highly self-sufficient in managing tasks and responsibilities.

  • Ability to consistently adhere to strict timelines and deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related professional experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree (i.e., AA+4 yrs related professional experience). A minimum of an Associate's degree is required.

Minimum Starting Salary Information:

This position is at a salary grade C. The minimum of the placement range is $66,244.64. The selected candidate will be placed at or above the minimum based on education and experience. WNC's placement range falls within the NSHE salary schedule: NSHE ADMINISTRATIVE SALARY SCHEDULE

  • NSHE Faculty Retirement Plan Alternative (RPA)

All faculty and professional staff working at least half-time equivalent must participate in the NSHE Faculty Retirement Plan Alternative (RPA) as a condition of employment. The current contribution rate is 17.5%. Your contribution is matched by the College at 17.5% for a total contribution rate of 35%.

Your contributions are made by pre-tax salary reduction and you are 100% vested from your first day. You choose how to invest your own and NSHE's contributions. The plan administrator provides dedicated financial consultants that are available to assist you in your investment deliberations. NSHE provides participants with a three-tiered investment line-up that provides investment options for everyone, from the less engaged investor to the investor who prefers to more actively manage their retirement savings. Faculty and staff who have previously participated in the Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada (PERS) may be required to continue participation in PERS.

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) does not participate in the federal Social Security System but does contribute to the federal Medicare program. This means that while you are employed by NSHE neither you nor NSHE contribute to Social Security and you do not earn a Social Security benefit.
