The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities (NCCDD) is a 40 member, gubernatorial-appointed Council, charged with representing and advocating for people with developmental disabilities. Sixty percent of Council Members are individuals with I/DD or family members. Other Council Members include key state agency leaders from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Disability Rights North Carolina, legislators, and providers.

The primary purpose of the position is to serve as an Executive Assistant to the 40 members of the NC Council on Developmental Disabilities providing administrative support by assisting programs and administrative officials in day-to-day activities related to the NCCDD. Work requires considerable public contact with consumers, customers, program personnel, departments/divisions, and the general public.

Job duties include the following:

  • Requires well-developed interpersonal, communication, organizational and computer skills.  Answering questions about complex issues concerning work being performed by the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities (NCCDD), with extensive public contact through telephone communication with individuals inside and outside of state government.

  • Coordinates day-to-day functions for the program, plans and organizes activities, communicates, and interprets program information, policy, and procedures, provides customer service to council members, staff, officials, and the general public.

  • Scheduling & coordinating meetings with staff working on the NCCDD council, state agency leaders, consumer/advocacy groups, etc., securing meeting facilities as needed; independently coordinate daily, annual, or semi-annual meetings required by NCCDD including making necessary travel and itinerary arrangements, facility use arrangements and preparing materials for the meetings.

  • Preparing routine and special reports as indicated by Executive Leadership.

  • Public contact is a fundamental responsibility of this position in providing information or obtaining concurrence, cooperation, or approval of actions when acting on behalf of the Council.

  • Overnight travel could be required.

Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Considerable knowledge of office management practices, techniques, and technology; considerable knowledge and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and language uses to compose a variety of written materials.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with any of the state or local systems that provide support and services to people with developmental disabilities (LME/MCO'S, NCDVRS, DPI, DMH/DD/SUS, etc.)

  • Documented experience using effective communication techniques, both orally and in writing.

  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, public officials, and/or the general public.

  • Demonstrated experience in planning, prioritizing, and organizing office workflow and procedures.

  • Documented experience performing, managing, and coordinating a volume of administrative tasks, including basic accounting skills.

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience;

  • If applicants earned college credit hours but did not complete a degree program, they must attach an unofficial transcript to each application to receive credit for this education.
