Basic Function:

This position is responsible for leading all aspects of Group/Employer marketing including marketing strategy development, execution and optimization. Accountable for marketing strategy/plans and execution including channel optimization across; digital, television, social media and print and are responsible for cost effectively obtaining and retaining members in both the under and over 65 Group markets. Responsible for leading initiatives across the organization and with vendors to increase sales and retain members in the employed market.

Responsible for sales support activities, including: sales collateral; presentations and sales story; direction of product video; RFP response collaboration; oversight of go-to-market strategies across all communications channels for new product/capabilities; creation of market promotion strategies inclusive of PR, internal communication, and direct-to-prospect upsell/cross-sell initiatives.

Responsible for engagement and optimization of standard and custom group member employees, including the management of internal and external matrix partners in developing and deploying strategies to identify, educate, engage, and drive employee members to optimize health care consumption.


  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or similar field.

  • 10 years marketing/advertising experience.

  • Knowledge of managed care/health care products, operations and sales channels.

  • 7 years management experience including development and execution of plans and budget.

  • Experience leading major business, planning, and development efforts.

  • Financial acumen.

  • Verbal and written communications skills to negotiate, present and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and with external agencies.

  • Leadership presence and skills to drive collaborative work processes across multidisciplinary teams.


  • Master Degree in Business, Marketing or similar field.

  • Experience with digital marketing

  • Experience with direct marketing

This position develops and supports each hotel's operating sales and catering strategies, business development, revenue management and sales support programs in collaboration with each property's Director of Sales. This role is a catalyst and extension of each hotel's sales division, as they will dive deep to understand the uniqueness of how each property illustrates Trans Local Hospitality based upon their People, Place and Character. Founded in 2011, Aparium Hotel Group is a Chicago-based, leading lifestyle hotel company owned and operated by industry veterans accomplished in hotel development, management and marketing. Aparium Hotel Group's growth is guided by its "Translocal Hospitality" philosophy, which is the belief that great hotels are a destination sought out by travelers and a place that thrives as a gathering hub for locals. Specializing in historic adaptive reuse projects, each of Aparium Hotel Group's properties are independent brands and celebrate the specific neighborhoods and unique history of the distinct cities in which they reside. Aparium Hotel Group currently operates ten hotel properties across the United States with more than a dozen new projects in development. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES CREATES AND BUILDS RELATIONSHIPS * Builds and establishes relationships with national meeting planners and third-party meeting planners to communicate the offerings of Aparium's unique hotel portfolio; and maximizes revenue opportunities by confidentially prospecting targeted clients through a variety of communication channels; * Confidant and coach to property Directors of Sales to help identify strategies, overcome objections and generate new opportunities based upon the needs of the property and uniqueness of the hotel to the market; * Establishes trust and confidence with the General Manager to support the development and performance needs of the Director of Sales; and ensures the sales team receives property support for execution of strategies, new programs and creative ideas; * Connects the local Director of Sales with new planners to ensure needs can be met that will mutually benefit each party; and ensures a planner's request for information is attended to urgently and thoroughly leaving no stone unturned. ILLUSTRATES TRANS LOCAL HOSPITALITY * Dives deep into the local culture of the city of Aparium's hotel portfolio, understanding the stories behind People, Place and Character of each property; and can communicate the individuality of each hotels programming and services, that connects locals and travelers'; * Ensure the sales and marketing collateral communicate the appropriate verbiage that states the local story; and ensures the imagery used represents the character and place of a hotel; and ensures the use of appropriate media channels to support clients' needs; * Understands the competitive set and market conditions to ensure the differentiators of our hotels can be articulated in an engaging manner; fluent in what the surrounding neighborhood and city features are to meet the needs of the clients' purpose in choosing our hotels as a destination. COLLABORATES FOR THE GREATER GOOD * Collaborates with Marketing to identify the best formula for representing a property's People, Place and Character in digital and print to communicate to potential clients; * Travels to properties to gain insight to client needs and desires, partner with providers for support and implementation, checks-in with third-party support organizations to establish each property as a known entity within in its locale, or provide support to the hotel team for FAM visits or special events; * Acts as a property Director of Sales or Sales Manager for a short period of time if coverage is required; is comfortable for taking on a property assignment for up to 30 days; * Represents the Home Office team as a supportive, coaching and collaborative group whose primary goal is to help the property teams achieve their hotel performance metrics and individual developmental goals that drive guest satisfaction and associate engagement. INFLUENCES AUDIENCES * Develops and conducts persuasive sales presentations to prospective clients by using a variety of engaging presentation methods, a story-telling perspective and a sincere belief in the uniqueness of each of Aparium's hotels; * Demonstrates seasoned negotiating skills to ensure sales contracts are a win-win situation for all parties and stakeholders; able to uncover a clients unstated needs and address any objection; * Conducts quarterly production reviews with clientele and hotels by using the appropriate data to articulate successes and challenges; identifies and communicates gaps through an analytical mindset; * Updates stakeholders on the business development effort by reporting on account tracking to document sales leads and booking achievements; substantiates by having a current database of client contact information that records booking history and documentation of client calls. Additional Requirements and abilities * Bachelor's in Communication, Marketing or related field; relevant years of experience will be considered; * Minimum of three (3) years of experience within a regional Sales and Marketing role within an upscale hospitality company; minimum of five (5) years of experience in leading a team of direct reports; * Willing to travel 30% of the time; sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less; * Demonstrated ability to persuade indirect reports and peer group to support strategic direction for implementation of business plans; can communicate complex information in simple form to a wide range of audiences; * Demonstrated ability to write and articulate analytical, financial and quantitative reporting; utilizing advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite; POSITION ATTRIBUTES * Highly analytical in thought and recommendations; although will never act like the smartest person in the room; and continually seek out the facts; * Engages others in general conversation tactics to build rapport quickly; and can lead and adapt communication and presentation tactics to engage audience; * Approaches fact finding and discovery missions in a collaborative effort; values input and experiences of others that creates additional insight to uncover deeper issues that need to be addressed or removed as a barrier to implementation; * Passionate in driving results of their effort and others; can influence others to take direction to execute on strategy through tactical methods; and is comfortable in prioritizing their work and that of others; * Prioritizes and organizes their own work when necessary by working flexible or extended hours to accommodate increased workload or new project assignments; can flex to the needs of a rapidly growing company; * Values the importance of making decisions with integrity, maintaining confidentiality across internal work groups and knows how to use discretion when appropriate; understands the difference between transparency and confidentiality.
