Job Title: Exceptional Children's Middle School Coach

Department of Exceptional Children

Position Summary: The Elementary/K-8 EC Coach, will support exceptional classroom teachers to promote student growth. The EC Coach will be able to support teachers with effective practices and district expectations. The Coach will help design, implement and evaluate programming and services and instruction for students with disabilities.

Responsible to: EC Specialists, Coordinators, EC Director

Payment Rate: According to Certified Teacher Salary Schedule

Term of Employment: 10 months

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university.

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience with students with disabilities.

  • Current NC teaching license in special education.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Specialist/s with tasks and initiatives related to improving the quality of programming and instruction for students with disabilities.

  • Work collaboratively with EC Staff to facilitate open communication with all levels of administration.

  • Knowledge of the IEP process, ECATS, and confidential folder organization.

  • Knowledge of the manifestation determination review process and alternative placement options.

  • Assist teachers in collection, assessment, and interpretation of data to design appropriate individualized instruction for students with disabilities.

  • Assist, model, train teachers on delivering specialized instruction

  • Assist Specialist with tasks and initiatives related to improving the quality of instruction for students with IEP's

  • Provide support to teachers related to implementation of curriculum and research-based instructional strategies

  • Provide support to teachers related to data collection, analysis, and data-driven decision making

  • Participate in required meetings and trainings

  • Maintain required documentation related to job tasks and communications

  • Assist teachers in creating positive learning environments, schedules, classroom management that emphasize success and working as a team.

  • Knowledge of grade course content and instructional models through research-based practices.

  • Provide teachers resources for students with disabilities.

  • Facilitate professional development that is ongoing, deeply embedded in teacher's classroom work with students, specific to grade levels, content that is age and ability level appropriate and research-based practices.

  • Work in collaboration with Specialists to plan and organize PLC's, trainings, and PD for Special Education Teachers.

  • Participate in required meeting and trainings.

  • Work collaboratively and collegially with other Coaches, Staff and EC Director.

  • Be visible and available to Special Education Teachers and students

  • Support teachers in the development of paperwork including but not lmited to: IEP's, BIP's, initial referrals, MDR's. Also to support teachers in meetings as needed.

  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

  • Other additional duties assigned by supervisors.
