Salary:
$16.45/hr
Benefits:
Full benefits including paid holidays, sick leave, annual leave, holiday pay, health insurance and retirement. Local supplement of 5.5% starts the month after completion of first year. State longevity after 10 years of service.
Qualifications:
All applicants must be designated as "Highly Qualified". 48 college credits or 7 credits in core subject matter and passing WorkKeys test scores.
Any combination of training, education and experience, which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and skills necessary to assist students requiring services for visual impairment
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Principal and/or assigned classroom teacher
Job Goal:
To provide specialized assistance to visually impaired and blind students who may have additional disabilities through an equity centered lens during the instructional day and learning environment for accessing learning materials, physical assistance, social emotional support and other relevant areas for students requiring assistance in educational access.
Performance Responsibilities:
Provides assistance for students with visual impairments through assisting with the instruction and management of students in the following ways:
Establish relationship
Under the direction of the classroom teacher and Teacher of Visual Impairment, may provide individual, small group, whole group/class instruction to students with visual impairment to assist them in accessing curriculum and understanding instructional concepts
Assists with preparation of teaching/learning materials (including Braille), monitor proper functioning of specialized equipment designed to assist or accommodate students, behavior management and data collection
Students specific Individual Education Program (IEP) goals, modifications and accommodations
Adapts print materials in required font sizes according to individual student need; assists in the use of a variety of supplementary instructional materials and aids, including large print, tactile illustrations, and auditory support
Collaborates with grade level teachers and special education teachers about areas of need for designing learning, implementation, data collection and any necessary follow up related to strength and needs of students
Maintains confidentiality of information about students.
Assists with the physical needs of students through the following, but not limited to the following:
mobility assistance, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and self care
Serve as a resource in collaboration, when necessary, for student evaluations, team discussions, instructional coverage, school based duties
Performs classroom health procedures, when necessary
Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
Participates in training and staff development activities as directed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
Ten-month year; work schedule determined by the Principal. Salary in accordance with the adopted schedule.
Evaluation:
Evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel
