The Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP), operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH), is seeking an experienced cleaner to join its Environmental Services team. As a member of the facility team, daily communication and interaction are essential as well as working in a professional and safe manner. The incumbent of this position will perform cleaning and related domestic services to the interior of buildings and work on locked units doing general cleaning.

Work Schedule: The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week on 2nd shift, from 2:45PM to 11:15PM. The days off are Week 1: Wednesday and Saturday and Week 2: Sunday and Thursday.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Supervises EVS staff in the performance of their varied tasks including scheduling and assignments of individuals, or project crews.

  • Coordinates and ensures that all work schedules are covered to provide effective operational support.

  • Confirms with EVS staff that work performed meets established standards, policies, and departmental regulations.

  • Performs day-to-day cleaning services on locked units to ensure a sanitary, attractive facility in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

  • Cleans, sweeps, vacuums, and washes floors, using appropriate equipment and supplies to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the hospital.

  • Dusts, polishes, and washes interior surfaces such as windows furniture, walls, ceilings, etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment to maintain building in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Prepares beds after washing using appropriate linen supplies and removes/hangs window draperies and bedside curtains as needed.

  • Cleans toilets, lavatories, washrooms, mops closets, etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of such areas.

  • Empties and relines trash receptacles, paying particular attention to the safe and proper handling of hazardous and infectious waste/materials.

  • Collects soiled linen to aid in the operation of the laundry function.

  • Arranges and moves furniture, beds, supplies as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English to communicate effectively with a diverse group of employees, supervisors, and visitors.

  • Skilled in the ability to follow oral and written instructions/directions.

  • Talent for establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships and dealing tactfully with others.

  • Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in general institution/hospital housekeeping work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated language skills that allow for two-way communication, effective client service, coordination with other members of the client care team.

  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

About the Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP):

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) in collaboration with the Department of Public Health (DPH) Bureau of Substance Addiction Services operates a statewide Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP) for individuals civilly committed by the courts for substance use treatment for up to 90 days ("Section 35 commitment").

The program model will provide acute detoxification and early clinical stabilization services as we help clients develop community-based linkages to outpatient supports and substance use disorder treatment providers. The individuals treated within this program will be linked upon discharge to a range of services within the DPH continuum of care for substance use conditions. RAP provides administrative, medical, clinical, and non-clinical services. Its mission to provide quality client-centered care and recovery-oriented treatment.
