This role will fulfill duties for Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department public events and marketing on a seasonal basis. This role will play a crucial part in supporting our communication efforts and coordinating various events to enhance our organization's visibility and engagement with stakeholders.

Marketing & Communications

The role will work with the Marketing & Outreach Manager and Graphic Designer to assist with social media posting, general organization and project management, on-site event photography and videography, blogging, and website updates. Assist in the production of promotional materials such as flyers, posters, and event invitations.

Events Assistance

This position will help with the set up and on-site execution of indoor and outdoor events throughout the city's parks. At times will work independently and other times on a larger team. This role will continuously learn and execute event tasks and collaborate with internal teams and external partners.  Event staff must be incredibly trustworthy and professional at all times and

should be a self-starter. Training comes with the work, depending on experience.

Ability to work on evenings and weekends, with July 2nd-4th and Wednesday evening/nights from 7/10-8/7 required. Please note this is primarily a summer position with variable hours (between 20-30 / week). The ideal candidate has some availability into November for multiple fall events.

Union Affiliation: Non-Union

Pay Grade: $19.00 - $21.00 Hourly•   Support BPRW's event production for the department's roster of summer and fall events, along with newly developing partnership events.

  •    Work indoors and outdoors, handle physical tasks, and conduct work with professionalism and compassion for everyone encountered.

  •    Contribute to effective relationships with third-party vendors, organizations, cultural and community organizations, and City personnel.

  •    Ability to work on evenings and weekends.

  •    Complete the set-up of all aspects of the day, including chairs, tables, sporting equipment, audio equipment, and much more.

  •   Use creative skills to create graphics using Canva.

  •   Prepare social media posts.

  •   Photograph events and programs.

  •   Organize and manage image assets.

  •   Copy edit and write with strong attention to detail.

  •   Work under short deadlines and under pressure. Creatively problem-solve when required.

  •   Regular attendance and check-ins with supervisors (in-person and/or virtual).

  •   Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures.

  •    Monitor and follow city-wide safety policy and practices and adhere to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, and report any unsafe activities and conditions.

  •   Position may require the operation of City vehicles and/or personal vehicles in order to conduct City business.•   Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.

  •    Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.

  •  High school diploma required.

  •    Demonstrated experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field required.

  •  Experience managing a professional social media account preferred.

  •  Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.

  •   Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  •   Experience in event planning and coordination is preferred.

  •  Valid driver's is license required; having own transportation is preferred.

  •    Operation of a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business without providing proof of a valid driver's license to Human Resources will not be permitted. A valid driver's license shall be defined as a current state of residence-issued license to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways. Position also requires the ability to be covered under the City's vehicle insurance policy prior to operation of any City vehicles or non-City vehicles for City business.

  •  Must be 18 years or older.

  •  Ability to lift 50lbs.

  •  Ability to communicate effectively to both public and staff.

  •  Ability to work well with others and individually.

  •  A willingness to learn new things and flexibility to carry out various event related tasks.

  •   Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.

  •  Availability to work some evenings and weekends at large public events.Promoting a culture that reveres diversity and equity.
