Essential Duties

1.Serves as liaison between Master Electrician, Designer and electrics department to provide and obtain information necessary to execute designs. 2. Oversees student Light Board Operator and/or programmer for productions.

Trains crew in operation of light board, follow spot, and special effects. Supervises appropriate personnel. 3. Reads, interprets, and executes light plots.

Reviews light plots with appropriate personnel. 4. Uses a variety of complex tools, processes, materials, and equipment in completing assigned projects. 5. Assists at load-in, notes sessions, technical rehearsals, and strike of productions. 6.

Participates in provision and implementation of overhead rigging for lighting equipment. 7. Develops and assists with implementation of special lighting effects. 8. Serves as Senior Head Electrician for outside organizations or special events using theater's venues, as assigned. 9.

Oversees and participates in the maintenance and repair of electrics shop, tools, equipment, and associated financial paperwork. 10. Transports equipment. 11. In conjunction with appropriate personnel, maintains the safety and efficiency of lighting storage and workspaces. 12.

Attends appropriate meetings. 13. Assists related departments in load-in, notes sessions, technical rehearsals, and strike of productions. 14. Works occasional nights, weekends and holidays. 15. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

1.Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. 2. Professional or graduate-level experience as a theatrical lighting electrician.

Position Focus:

The Event Technician reports to the Yale Schwarzman Center Technical Director. Reviews technical drawings; ensures safe and efficient operation of the YSC equipment and spaces; and engages in the construction, installation, and strike of lighting, sound, projections, and scenic elements for all YSC Production and related events. Carries out duties while exercising a large degree of autonomy and discretion, maintaining high standards for safety and customer service.

  • Review production related technical drawings, providing guidance on materials, methods, and technical design choices. Assist with the bid process of rentals as needed and assigned.

  • In concert with YSC Director of Production (DoP) and Technical Director (TD), plan the sequence of projects to maintain safety and efficiency.

  • Instruct staff, students, and casual/temporary employee crews on the proper use of YSC tools and equipment, ensuring compliance with known health and safety guidelines.

  • Participate in the installation, focus, note-sessions, and strike of YSC related productions and events as assigned by the DoP or TD, including events in Woolsey Hall Identify and prioritize maintenance and repair of shops, tools, and equipment.

  • Oversee working crews of students and casual labor to ensure the completion of developed production plans, call breaks as appropriate, and advise on crew personnel.

  • Develop and update technical drawing as needed in either AutoCAD or Vectorworks.

  • Use a variety of complex tools, processes, materials, and equipment in completing assigned projects.

  • Transport equipment as needed.

  • Attend meetings as appropriate.

  • In conjunction with the TD, oversee the of installation, focus, and removal of lighting, sound and projection equipment at load-in, notes sessions, technical rehearsals and strike of productions.

  • Help develop plans for the safe and efficient use of storage and workspaces.

  • May act as show caller for events as assigned.

Works frequent nights, weekends, and holidays. Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

M.F.A. in theatre production, emphasis in technical production/mgmt. ETC Lighting Controls, LED, moving light fixtures.

National/local electric codes, electrical theory/application. Theatrical rigging; exp with JR Clancy Scene Control. Qlab Audio & Video, Isadora, Watchout, Panasonic 4k PTZ cameras, BlackMagic Video. Exp. as production electrician, audio engineer, or projectionist.
