This position is responsible for completing event setup, cleanup & general support before, during, and after events. This position helps with event setup/takedown and provides support to the event staff and serves as a custodian while events are underway. Additionally, this position performs routine custodial tasks within the building to help maintain the cleanliness, sanitary condition, safety, and appearance of the McGavick Conference Center & Student Center, while following assigned works standards.

The Event Services Attendant is an overtime-eligible position.

This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302.

Duty: Setup and Teardown of Events

Tasks Include:

  • Complete all pre-event set-ups, which include the following; clean space, empty garbage, clean floors, arrange tables, chairs, stages, podiums, dance floors, decorations, props, and other items needed for the events.

  • Complete post-event tear down and store all Event Services equipment properly in appropriate locations.

  • Inspect all equipment for proper functioning before setting up and during tear down.

  • Conduct orderly appearance in all storage areas.

  • Assist in placement and removal of A/V equipment per the direction of event staff. No A/V knowledge is needed for this task.

  • Follow through on lost and found procedures when conducting post-event tear downs.

  • Assist in reporting any repairs needed to the supervisor.

Duty: Cleaning and General Maintenance

Tasks Include:

  • Maintain the cleanliness of event and janitorial storage areas during and post events.

  • Maintain the cleanliness of public event spaces during and post-event, including; event spaces, restrooms, grounds, and public areas.

  • Ability to adjust to event setup and cleanup needs as they arise (i.e. sweeping, mopping, stocking bathroom supplies, and other cleaning duties as assigned).

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work within a team to complete a variety of tasks and remain flexible under pressure

  • Exhibit an awareness and sensitivity to cultural and other differences when working with partner organizations, volunteers, vendors, and the general public.

  • Friendly, customer services, and safety-oriented personality

  • Able to work a flexible schedule as assigned when needed, including late weekday evening, early weekday mornings, and weekends for special events

  • Prior experience in the hospitality and event industry

  • Prior custodial or setup experience
