Event Operations Maintenance

Rate of Pay: $18.50 per hour

Position Purpose:

Provides janitorial and set-up/tear-down support to the Event Operations department. This is a seasonal/temporary position not to exceed 122 days.

Essential Functions:

• Sets up event related equipment such as picnic tables, umbrellas, trash cans, bleachers, set-up planters.

• Sets-up and dismantles a variety of structures and booths for various events held throughout the year at the fairgrounds.

• Removes trash from buildings and around the property, and empties and relines trash barrels.

• Keeps event trash-free; maintains cleans restrooms and other areas for patrons.

• Prepares exhibit buildings for move-in by cleaning and stocking supplies.

• Operates a variety of equipment including forklifts, manlifts, floor scrubbers, motorized utility carts and hand tools.

• Cleans and stocks restrooms and inventories janitorial supplies.

• Adheres to all workplace and job specific safety guidelines, and uses personal protective equipment as instructed.

• Coordinates requests from event promoters with other departments including Maintenance and Events Sales & Service.

• Provides information to supervisor for event recap reports.

• Maintains daily notes on specific tasks assigned and equipment rented.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Must possess a valid California driver's license.

• Previous experience with janitorial work necessary.

• Ability to successfully handle and prioritize multiple tasks required.

• Ability to work well with others a must.

• Ability to work outside the normal business day/week as demanded by events and programs.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with supervisor, co-workers and patrons necessary.

• Excellent teamwork skills required.

• Must be well groomed.

• Must be able to follow basic instructions and be willing to work weekends.

• Some duties will require the use of small tools.

• Must be able to work all 23 days of the annual OC Fair.

Preferences:

• Ability to operate forklifts, manlifts, floor scrubbers, carts and hand tools strongly preferred.

• Basic knowledge of the proper use of hand tools a plus.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Work Environment:

Will work in a fast-paced indoor and outdoor environment in all types of weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud, however louder noise levels may be experienced during outdoor events and when in larger event buildings.
