The City of Laramie is accepting applications for an Evening Truck Operator to operate Mosquito Control fog trucks during periods of high nascence mosquitos and/or the presence of vector mosquitos. Under direction, the selected candidate will apply EPA designated reduced risk pesticides via a fogger unit in the bed of trucks. These units are controlled with a remote from inside the cab of the truck. Other job duties may include the collection of adult mosquito traps, speciation of adult mosquitos, larval surveillance, and biological larval control.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (A combination of the following experience and training, or the equivalent of, would be qualifying):
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have or be able to obtain valid Class C driver's license.
Must be able to work an evening shift from 8:30 PM to 12:30 AM (20hrs a week) Sunday evening through Thursday Evening. More hours are available between the hours of 5:00 PM and 1:00 AM (40hrs a week) but not required.
Ability to perform strenuous manual labor outdoors in all types of weather; complete physical mobility and average strength; ability to develop skills in a wide variety of equipment operation and basic mechanical skills.
Ability to work with other employees and to interact with the public; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
Job requires steel-toed work boots.
First aid, CPR and other OSHA certification may be required and will be made available through on the job training.
Ability to provide accurate data input for record keeping requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ideal candidate will have Wyoming Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicators license with Public Health or Mosquito Control endorsements (not required).
Background in Entomology or related biological sciences is also preferred.
Experience with handheld GPS data-loggers.
Availability to begin work May and work through September (weather dependent).
