Evening Cosmetology Instructor

Qualifications

Must hold a valid Oklahoma Cosmetology Master Instructor's license.

Must have had at least three years of experience as a licensed Cosmetologist within the last five years to meet certification requirements of the Trade and Industrial Education Division of the Oklahoma Department of Career & Technology Education. CareerTech graduate is preferred.

Must possess knowledge and skill as needed to instruct students in the following areas:

Cosmetology theory

Manicuring and pedicuring

Facials

Scalp treatments, shampooing, and conditioning

Hairstyling

Hair color tints and bleaching

Haircutting and hair shaping

Hair restructuring

Professional development

Master Instructor curriculum

Essential Job Functions

• Develop and present the state-approved cosmetology curriculum to adult students in such a manner as to provide them with marketable job skills in the field upon completion of the training program.

• Model and teach students strong work ethic and customer service skills.

• Evaluate students in theory and practical work using weekly formative assessments. Summative theory evaluations will be made three to four times during theory training. Practical evaluations are to be made at least three times, after 500 hours, 1000 hours, and a mock board evaluation before completing 1500 hours of instruction in cosmetology or as deemed necessary during training.

• Jointly establish a business and education council of successful cosmetologists with the daytime cosmetology instructor to provide input into the relevance of curriculum and equipment used in the cosmetology program and formally meet with this council at least once yearly. Informal meetings with one or more members should take place monthly.

• Maintain continuous contact with businesses and industries throughout the district that employ persons in the cosmetology field. Gain information regarding new techniques, equipment, or potential jobs that could be implemented in the cosmetology program, as well as seek employment for graduating students and ideas for curriculum development and recruitment.

• Abide by all policies and procedures adopted by the Meridian Technology Center Board of Education and assist the Administration in implementing all policies and/or procedures governing student conduct.

• Join and participate in professional and trade associations and civic organizations.

• Attend all meetings called by the Superintendent and the Director of Instruction as required and as the class schedule will allow.

• Maintain records as required by the school and the State Board of Cosmetology. Prepare and submit all required reports on time.

• Maintain accurate inventory records and closely monitor the use of inventory items in the Cosmetology program to prevent loss, damage, or theft.

• Utilize work time efficiently between 12 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Be available to assist students by 3:00 p.m. daily. Class hours are Monday

• Thursday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

• Promote Meridian Technology Center and its programs and employees at every available opportunity, with specific responsibilities for recruitment and promotion of the Cosmetology program.

• Maintain up-to-date equipment in the Cosmetology program for relevant training of students.

• Place students in realistic on-the-job training situations and/or assist with full-time employment upon satisfactory completion of the Cosmetology program competencies and hours.

• Arrange for performing maintenance on equipment as needed and, when applicable, to keep equipment in top operating condition.

• Use proper purchasing procedures to order supplies for the program as needed throughout the school year.

• Set up product knowledge and demonstration classes as part of the program curriculum.

• Abide by all rules and regulations set forth by the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology.

• Maintain a positive, ongoing relationship with the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology.

• Confidentially communicate with students on a regular basis regarding their skill level, practical application, grade, and soft skill level.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift items weighing as much as 50 pounds occasionally.

Must be able to travel to various communities to make business and industry visits.

Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in writing and orally.

Standards of Performance

The Evening Cosmetology Instructor will be evaluated based on the previously listed responsibilities and Meridian Technology Center's Performance Review Guidelines. These evaluations will determine salary increases and career advancement possibilities.
