Summary
The Estimator Trainee is an introductory role where you learn and become familiar with interpreting total opening requirements as set forth within contract documents, i.e. plans, specifications, addenda, and other related information concerning an individual construction project. Uses computer technology and mathematical skills in the formation of the estimate.
Essential Functions
Assists other Estimators during the hard bid processes
Learns to review scope of work and perform labor cost interpretation based on scope of work
Receives constructing plans, drawings and specifications and reviews for familiarization; checks for completeness; notes bid deadlines and any special requirements
Learns how to separate portions of major projects and to identify a typical opening or hardware set; notes project construction schedules, if applicable
Learns to interpret construction specifications
Reads building plans and learns to identify applicable portions with Cook & Boardman involvement
Summarizes door opening and other applicable portions of plans by type
Enters applicable information into computer system and prices job based on computer cost files
Will learn how to complete Door & Hardware take offs
Will learn door, frame and hardware applications as they relate to UL, fired code, building code, ADA, life safety and other restrictions that relate to the general commercial construction industry
All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred
Functional working knowledge of computers, proficiency in Microsoft Office products
Accurate mathematical skills
Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen

Blue print/plan reading
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and positive interpersonal skills
Detail oriented, deadline conscience, goal driven
Winning attitude
Effective time management and strong organizational skills
Self-motivated and proactive

Work Environment
This job operates primarily in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
