The Estimator is responsible for the corporate estimating efforts for the fabrication and machining divisions of the company. This includes providing estimates for ongoing and development programs, supporting management and the use and development of tools to improve estimating performance.


  • Provide estimates and supporting detail for machining part and assembly estimates

  • Understand the magnitude of requests and work with management to determine feasibility and estimating approaches

  • Provide daily status on estimates prior to submitting for approval and release to customer

  • Manage assigned estimating activities that occur at plant and corporate level

  • Work closely with the material and subcontract management organization to provide Machining Request For Quotations (RFQ), evaluate responses and select suppliers for sub-contract, material and tooling efforts

  • Incorporate supplier inputs into LMI's proposal/quotes to customers

  • Support management for the bid/no bid process from receipt of RFQ through contract issuance

  • Support, evaluate, develop methods and tools for quoting new machining work

  • Support development of computerized estimating models with the ability to transfer information and reporting between LMI departments

  • Support the updates of machining estimating standards at all LMI manufacturing facilities

  • Support contracts for contract changes that affect manufacturing, both technical and non-technical

  • Assess impact to operations and communicate to customer in proactive manner

  • Assist management in the development of standardized Machining proposal processes

  • Evaluate various ways to improve parametrics, top down and bottom up estimates for Firm Fixed Price (FFP), Request for Information (RFI) and Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates

  • Ability to work on multiple data systems which is conducive to supporting site and corporate objectives

  • Have a thorough understanding of learning curves applications, mathematical formulas and the ability to apply multi-curve projections

  • Develop estimate summary for senior leadership and plant approval.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Business Management discipline.

  • Three or more years of experience in machining aerospace manufacturing industry or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience (specifically Industrial, Mechanical or Aerospace experience).

  • Experience in Machining of 3,4 and 5 axis components, detail planning, NC programming, shop floor practices and estimating is necessary.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts, along with experience in a multi-plant environment is a plus.

  • Experience with manufacturing machined assemblies, Lean Manufacturing techniques and tools (specifically project management)

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Visio and Project) and other programs helpful in managing and facilitating projects.
