    What You Will Be Doing

As the Estimator you will be responsible for calculating project costs to obtain the profitability by preparing the budgets, estimates, and pre-bid packages during the preconstruction phase. You will also be in charge of establishing a bidders list, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor proposals and scopes of work. You will need to know On-Screen Takeoff or similar software. Most of the projects you will be working are will be mid-large size projects such as commercial, offices, retail, high rises, hotels, residential and healthcare. This position will estimate projects within a design build environment for low to medium voltage projects. Projects are primarily located throughout the Chicagoland area, but can at times be throughout and out of State. Occasional travel may be required. Estimator Overview: The estimator is an integral part of the electrical construction process and ensures competitiveness, profitability and growth. An electrical construction background is essential to being successful within this position. Duties and Responsibility: * Preparation of complete cost estimates (labor and material) for electrical commercial and industrial projects * Preparation of bills of material and other information for use by purchasing * Solicit subcontractor proposals * Attend pre-bid meetings, schedule and attend field walk-downs with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel to understand and determine constructability requirements * Maintain relationships with vendors for various materials and systems needed for estimates * Be aware of current pricing of material and obtain pricing from vendors on projects and ensure that sufficient pricing has been received for comparison purposes * Distribute information to suppliers for pricing as directed * Compare various project documents for accuracy and consistency as well as data entry and electronic document management * Contribute to strategic initiatives * Be aware of new labor saving items introduced to the industry and related matters * After award of project, assist in breakdown of estimate information into categories required for the project manager * Close coordination with Project Management * Assist other divisions as needed * Provide quality customer service to internal and external customers * Additional duties as determined by Chief Estimator * Maintain relationships with customers Job Requirements Skills and Qualifications: * 5 years or more of estimating experience in construction projects specifically within low to medium voltage projects within the commercial and industrial industry * Prior experience in a design build environment desired * Experienced level of knowledge of industry and NECA codes and guidelines * Ability to submit thorough and complete estimates on time * Experienced in the full cycle of estimating, take off through award * Proficient math skills * Excellent communication skills, verbal and written * Proficiency in using software used for spreadsheets, word processing, and scheduling to include MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) * Knowledgeable with Accubid estimating software or equivalent * Some experience with Bluebeam helpful * Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable.
