Prepares construction cost estimates for a wide range of horizontal and vertical Capital Improvement Projects. Develops material and labor costs for a wide variety of engineering disciplines including but not limited to structural, architectural, heavy-civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines at various stages of completion from concept to bid ready for traditional or alternative delivery methods. Performs objective constructability and cost reviews of public works projects. Uses database to tracks trends in construction costs.

Education and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering or closely related field from an accredited educational institution.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry working as an estimator and providing cost estimates for horizontal and vertical projects.
An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Arizona driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.
Preferred: Certification as a cost estimator by a national agency.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment. Essential Functions
Performs cost estimating for horizontal and vertical public work projects.
Tracks construction cost data of public works projects utilizing database.
Develops and keeps database current with most recent public works project cost data.
Obtains prices from vendors as needed to develop a cost estimate.
Assists in the review and development of Capital Improvement Plan project budgets for most city departments.
Operates a motor vehicle to conduct field and site visits as needed to evaluate issues, identify potential problems and suggest corrective measures.
Investigates the suitability of materials and methods of construction for compliance with construction codes.
Attends meetings or contacts architects, engineers and other city departments as needed to seek clarification or make suggestions during cost estimating and constructability reviews.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Most work is performed in a normal City office environment, with occasional work performed outdoors on site moving over rough terrain.
Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes and unpleasant but not hazardous odors.
Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
Operate a motor vehicle.
