The main objective of the Bilingual Parent Liaison in BCS is to increase EL parent and family involvement in schools due the decrease in parent-school communication and student instructional time caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic. His or her role is to establish effective communication between home and school and improve community outreach and training opportunities for Spanish-Speaking parents and families of students in grades preschool through 12, in an effort to impact ELs' academic and linguistic achievement. Bilingual Liaisons facilitate the intake/registration and enrolment of EL students, and plan and deliver monthly workshops for Spanish-speaking EL parents.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop a positive relationship with English learner (EL) families in the school district.

• Facilitate ELS' access to any and all appropriate educational and community services.

• Assist with the intake and registration of new EL students and re enrollments, translating foreign documentation and transcripts as needed.

• Participate in planning and professional development opportunities with ESL teachers, ESL aides, and the ESL Coordinator.

• Establish a series of EL parent workshops on high-need and high-interest topics, as defined by the EL parent community.

• Inform parents through individual and group meetings of school programs and procedures including testing, graduation requirements, eligibility for scholarships, and extracurricular activities.

• Discuss with parents higher education and career planning.

• Inform parents of student progress.

• Inform parents of their rights and responsibilities regarding school programs and procedures.

• Translate school to home communication.

• Translate at school conferences, registration and school events.

• Provide in-service for staff members on cultural diversity and methods of assisting students learning a second language.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the culture of the English Language Learners.

• Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional processes.

• Effective speaking, writing, reading and listening communication skills in two languages, English and Spanish.

• Ability to develop creative solutions.

• Knowledge of state and federal policies and procedures regarding Federal and State LEP and Migrant Programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bilingual in both English and Spanish.

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field.

Salary Range: From/To ESL Aides Schedule 27 ($31,601 - $39,461)
