As a dedicated ESP, you will have the unique opportunity to provide 1:1 or other low-ratio support to students in educational, adaptive, therapeutic, or life skills tasks. Your role will be instrumental in their development, as you will be supporting them in communication, self-care, academic skills, and other areas of need outlined in their IEP. Your understanding of prompt levels and ability to collect data will be highly valued. You will work as part of a team and your comfort in communicating with peers and supervisors will be key.
The STAR program, which you will be a part of, is coordinated by a special education teacher. It is a truly interdisciplinary program, with consultation and services provided by many other professionals based on student needs. This includes the BCBA, school counselor, ASD specialist, SLP, OT, TVI, and PT. Your role in this diverse team will be crucial in providing comprehensive support to our students.
We seek a reliable candidate with experience working with students with the following profile in educational or community settings: Students who access the STAR program are best described as having complex developmental needs. This can include students with an Autism Spectrum Disorders diagnosis, genetic conditions, or other impairments that significantly impact their cognitive and communication abilities. The students who access the program do not engage in sustained high-frequency behaviors seen as harmful to themselves or others. However, as-needed behavior plans to support acute periods may be developed. There is Safety Care training offered in August before school starts.
STAR students are seen and described as: "Successful, Talented, Authentic, and Resilient."
The current cohort would be up to students entering 6th grade.
