The Senior Claim Representative, under the direction of the Claims Team Leader, working with onsite team at customer location In Ledyard, CT, investigates and settles claims promptly, equitably and within established best practices guidelines.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Under limited supervision, receives assignments and reviews claim and policy information to provide background for investigation and may determine the extent of the policy's obligation to the insured depending on the line of business.

  • Contacts, interviews and obtains statements (recorded or in person) from insureds, claimants, witnesses, physicians, attorneys, police officers, etc. to secure necessary claim information. Onsite in-person investigations with injured employees, department personnel and onsite medical staff.

  • Depending on line of business may inspect and appraise damage for property losses or arranges for such appraisal. Onsite evaluation of accident/injury locations required.

  • Evaluates facts supplied by investigation to determine extent of liability of the insured, if any, and extend of the company's obligation to the insured under the policy contract.

  • Prepares reports on investigation, settlements, denials of claims, individual evaluation of involved parties etc.

  • Sets reserves within authority limits and recommends reserve changes to Team Leader.

  • Reviews progress and status of claims with Team Leader and discusses problems and suggested remedial actions.

  • Prepares and submits to Team Leader unusual or possible undesirable exposures.

  • Assists Team Leader in developing methods and improvements for handling claims.

  • Settles claims promptly and equitably.

  • Obtains releases, proofs of loss or compensation agreements and issues company drafts in payments for claims. At times may be required to deliver benefits to employees at home.

  • Informs claimants, insureds/customers or attorney of denial of claim when applicable. On litigated claims, required to handle and provide defense of claims at informal hearings before local Workers' Compensation Commissioner.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 or more years' experience handling claims as evidenced by career progression within the company or similar organization.

  • Ability to work independently with limited direction from a Team Leader.

  • Authoritative technical knowledge of claims handling and claims terminologies.

  • Superior negotiation skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to be capable of dealing face to face with claimants, customers, insureds, brokers, attorneys etc. in a positive manner concerning losses in a fast paced environment

  • Strong knowledge of the company's products, services, coverage's and policy limits, along with a solid understanding of claims best practices.

  • Commanding knowledge of applicable state and local laws related to line of business handled.

  • Superior customer service skills with the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and discretion including ability to handle difficult customer service situations, confidential employee issues and calls/visits from customer/management with poise and strong personal presence.

Description: This Employment Practices Liability Claim Trainee position is part of an entry-level training program that begins with an overview of the Chubb organization, while also developing a progressive knowledge and understanding of the property and casualty insurance industry, including financial line coverages. In tandem with your business and insurance acumen development, you will develop basic investigation, negotiation, and claim evaluation skills as you work to attain an understanding of the Claim role within Chubb. The position will work in an office environment and may require a minimal amount of work outside of the office. Travel to other locations for training may be required. Additional responsibilities include: * Contribute to a collaborative environment by consistently demonstrating teamwork, high motivation, positive behavior and effort to achieve goals and objectives * Complete accurate and timely loss investigations, analysis of medical information as well as claim evaluations * Make decisions regarding claim exposures and claim settlements * Understanding legal proceedings and how insurance matters are handled by the courts * Timely and appropriate communication with internal and external customers relative to account trends, service issues and large losses * Consistently demonstrate fundamentally sound claim handling practices by achieving compliance in areas to include: investigation, coverage, loss assessment, and case management * Building and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external customers, including clients, underwriting and service teams, and agents * Establish, document and execute appropriate strategies to bring early resolution to assigned claims * Recognize and properly address coverage issues, potential fraud, and subrogation Qualifications: * A high school diploma is required.
