BWC is currently operating under a hybrid schedule that may incorporate both teleworking and in-person office hours. Employees must be able to report to the office when requested by management &/or for their initial job training.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Performing complex ergonomic surveys and investigations;

  • Applying advance methodologies related to biomechanics, physiology, and other human factors & engineering technologies to derive engineering project controls in the prevention of injuries & illnesses;

  • Preparing written & oral reports of investigation, sensitive findings & recommended solutions presented to all skill level audiences;

  • Developing and instructing training programs for staff and public;

  • Representing the Safety & Hygiene department at meetings with employers, trade associations, unions, safety & health organizations, and safety councils;

  • This position will support all counties in Safety Services Region 3 which includes metro-Dayton and metro Cincinnati areas.

To Qualify, You Must Clearly Demonstrate:

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in industrial engineering or physical/natural sciences; 12 mos. exp. in private sector or other governmental agency performing same or comparable duties of Ergonomist 2, 24512; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in technical writing; valid driver's license.

  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Ergonomist 2, 24512; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in technical writing; valid driver's license.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Major Worker Characteristics:

Knowledge of: Industrial & construction safety practices; public relations; human relations; BWC policies & procedures*; interviewing tech.; industrial engineering; physical science (e.g., physics, chemistry) or engineering; ergonomics; state & fed. industrial safety standards, laws & regulations; BWC policies & procedures pertaining to industrial safety surveys; investigation principles & techniques; technical writing; safety training.

Skill in: operating pc & computer software; skill in operating various testing equip. (e.g., heat stress meter, octave band analyzer, motion analysis equipment, inclinometer, light meter, velometer, sling psychrometer,)

Ability to: deal with many variables & determine specific action; write complex tech. reports; read & record figures accurately; comprehend & record figures accurately; add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; use statistical analysis; recognize safety warning; comprehend simple sentence with common vocabulary; copy material accurately & recognize grammatical & spelling errors; complete routine forms; maintain accurate records; understand manuals & verbal instructions, tech. in nature; prepare meaningful, concise & accurate reports; proofread tech. materials, recognize errors & make corrections; use proper research methods in gathering data; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; ability to communicate effectively, orally & in writing; handle sensitive inquiries from employees, employers & union representatives pertaining to industrial safety/ergonomics issues.

Position requires travel therefore, persons occupying this position must be able to provide their own transportation, &/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle.

Unusual Working Conditions: occasional overnight travel may be required; occasional extended work hours including second & third shift; frequent exposure to noise, dirt, temperature extremes, all industrial hazards & occasional toxic substances, caustics, carcinogens; frequent constrained & prolonged static work postures.
