Under the direction of the department supervisor, the emergency department technician is responsible for assisting the nursing personnel by performing clerical and related duties at the department level. These related duties include performing EKGs, phlebotomy, insertion of straight catheter for the purposes of obtaining urine specimens placement of foley catheters, vital signs, providing assistance to professional nursing staff, assisting in the transportation of patients, and other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED equivalent and exhibit proficiency in patient care and oral communication skills. At least one year of experience as a nursing assistance, EMT, monitor tech, or unit secretary, preferably in the area of application. Must be able to follow directions and perform work according to department standards under the supervision of an RN.
Must obtain and maintain a current certificate in AHA CPR. Must maintain any other requirements for each specific department. Must complete required department competencies and maintain through annual review
