As an Employee Relations (ER) Specialist at Nike, you'll investigate, resolve, or escalate complex workplace issues in a fast-paced and dynamic environment in order to ensure consistency, fairness, and legal compliance. You will be focused on supporting Nike's growing North America Nike Direct population (Retail.) You'll advise, train and consult employees on employee policies, performance management (corrective action), and issue resolution. As a Champion of Nike's culture, you will deliver a premium experience to the employees and managers you support during difficult situations.


  • 3 years' varied/progressive HR experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, HR, Psychology, Sociology, Industrial Relations or a related field

  • Knowledge of current Mexico employment and labor law guidelines

  • 4 years' experience in lieu of a degree

  • Bi-Lingual (Spanish) required.

  • Fluency and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Strong consultancy (negotiation and influencing skills, ability to influence and drive positive change) needed for consensus building

  • Outstanding organizational skills; including the ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines, as well as multi-task in a fast paced environment.

  • Strong sense of confidentiality

  • Excellent problem solving, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills

  • Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel proficiency

  • This positon can be based in Los Angeles California or Dallas, TX

The function of this role is to provide support to the HR and Finance departments in the areas of payroll and benefits. The HR Payroll & Benefits Specialist will process semi-monthly multi-state payroll in the U.S. and Canada using ADP Payroll system. This is a hands on position that requires the ability to handle all aspects of payroll processing from new hire entry through submission when necessary. This role will also provide benefit administration and compliance support. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible the integrity of all payroll data into the Payroll system. * Manage the processing of multiple payrolls on a semi-monthly basis, which may include reviewing timecards for accuracy, creating and preparing payroll spreadsheets, compiling data, processing special requests and changes to employee information, auditing batch information, and ensuring timely execution and certification of data for processing. * Calculate and process new hires, leave of absences, terminations and pay adjustments according to the requirements mandated by the state in which the employee is paid. * Calculate overtime and double time for hourly employees according to state wage and hour laws. * Resolve any payroll-related issues with ADP and/or employees. * Maintain and adjust various employee deductions. * Data entry of garnishment payments, tax levies or other court ordered withholdings. * Ensure compliance with both internal payroll policies and external government requirements. * Facilitate payment of expense reports through payroll for Canadian employees. * Track workers compensation premium accruals and ensure correct classification and rate codes are applied to each employee. * Enter and adjust fringeable benefits. * Calculate and maintain imputed income schedules. * Maintain payroll reconciliation schedule for Finance department. * Handle payroll year-end processes such as payroll adjustments, out of sequence payrolls, ACA reporting oversight, and the reconciliation and distribution of W-2 statements. * Provide Finance department with timely and accurate general ledger interfaces, journal entries, and various month-end reports necessary to correctly allocate earnings to the proper departments. * Prepare various compliance reports. * Handle special filings for various U.S. states and Canada provinces. * Assist HR Director with benefit meetings for new enrollments and ensure all new hires are enrolled in the plans of their choice. * Collaborate with the HR Director during the annual review of Benefit costs and facilitation of any changes for the upcoming plan year. * Administer various employee group insurance programs including group Medical/Dental/Vision/Basic Life AD&D/Voluntary Life AD&D/STD/LTD/FSA - flexible spending accounts such as Health care, Dependent care, Transit, & Parking/401k plan administration. * Enroll and terminate employees to and from benefit plans. * Reconcile benefit costs on a monthly basis. * Facilitate the processing of invoices from providers and insurers with Finance. * Resolve any benefit issues with providers and employees. * Issue COBRA letters for new hires and terminating employees. * Coordinate COBRA benefits for terminated employees with 3rd party provider. * Maintain benefit schedules for Finance department. * Reconcile Flexible Spending Account schedule for payroll purposes and for Finance. * Maintain PTO schedule and assist Finance by reconciling the schedule against the time-tracking system. * Handle compliance matters, including but not limited to 401k & FSA non-discrimination testing and annual audit, ACA, EEO-1 reporting, workers compensation audits and annual insurance renewals. * Prepare compliance and census reports for benefit providers/insurers/brokers. 401K Administration and annual filing of Form 5500s * Maintain HCM system to include Recruiting, Onboarding and Performance management. Qualifications: * Bachelors degree or related field. * 5+ years of successful payroll experience. * 2+ years of benefit administration experience. * Minimum of 5 years processing full-cycle payroll from new hire set up through payroll submission, as well as working knowledge of payroll audit procedures, multi-state payroll tax and benefits administration laws. * Working knowledge of payroll and HRIS systems using ADP. * Solid understanding of employment law, regulatory, and legal compliance practices. * Strong knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws particularly within CA, NY, IL, GA, RI, and Canada that pertain to payroll. * Proficient Excel and Word skills necessary. * Ability to manage multiple priorities and strict deadlines, while building good interpersonal relationships with employees at all levels across the organization. * Must possess excellent critical thinking, problem solving skills and superior attention to detail; must have an eye for detail in ensuring data integrity in payroll information. * Ability to work under pressure, often in a deadline driven environment and ability to perform several tasks concurrently. * Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: * Knowledge of Canada payroll and regulations preferred. * Basic knowledge of accounting principles preferred. * CPP Certification a plus. * Knowledge of ADP Workforce Now * Payroll system implementation experience a plus.
