Job Summary

This position at River Road provides insightful equity securities analysis across multiple industries under RRAM's Absolute Value investing philosophy. Collaborates efficiently with all RRAM Investment Business Groups (IBGs) in evaluating current and prospective portfolio holdings to identify attractive risk and reward investment potential. Applies the appropriate research and modeling techniques to effect sound investment decisions. Please note, we will begin reviewing applications in May.

Work Arrangement: In-office / Hybrid

Status: Full-time

Reports to: Director of Research

A typical day may involve

• Producing timely, accurate, and insightful research summaries of new ideas for Portfolio Managers.

• Building detailed financial models and performing thorough due diligence on business strategy, management, customers, competitors, suppliers and industry dynamics.

• Formulating and maintaining forward looking investment recommendations (Buy/Sell/Hold) and developing strategy for securities held in the portfolio.

• Initiating timely discussions with PMs on current or potential holdings.

• Maintaining a watchlist.

• Contributing to investment team meetings and process discussions.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Understanding of valuation, accounting, and economic principles across many industries.

• Understanding of the strengths, weaknesses, and nuances of different valuation and investing methodologies in the context of RRAM's Absolute Value investing approach.

• Fundamental knowledge of RRAM's IBG investment strategies and individual department functions.

• Fundamental knowledge of SEC company filing structures as related to public equity investing.

• Fundamental knowledge of the Asset Management industry, including client types, communication aspects, customer service, and reporting standards.

• Aptitude for translating valuation subject matter into pragmatic investment discussions.

• Ability to take a contrarian view.

• Ability to read and understand financial statements, industry reports, policy papers, and trade journals.

• Ability to complete core modeling and analysis techniques of both corporate and securities finance.

• Ability to operate with a sense of urgency and meet deadlines.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (exceptional Excel skills) and FactSet.

• Proficiency in Python, C++, Java, SAS, or a similar language preferred.

Education, Credentials & Attributes

• Bachelor's degree required. Major in finance, economics, accounting, or related field strongly preferred.

• Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and/or progress toward Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is required.

• Must have 4-8 years of demonstrated experience in business analysis.

• Must be professionally mature and intellectually honest.

• Must be ready to build a career in Louisville, KY.

• Must have a strong passion for the industry and Absolute Value investing.
