JOB SUMMARY:

This is a developmental position within the Equity and Inclusion office, providing the fellow with exposure to the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging support of the Office of Equity an Inclusion in the City of Frederick.  The Fellow will perform research, record observations, and perform related assigned responsibilities under the direction and in support of the Manager of Equity and Inclusion.  The position is designed to help the fellow experience working in the public sector and to apply the theory and skills they have learned in the academic environment and to enhance their professional development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research local and national equity programs.

  • Documents findings and create reports.

  • Provides support to the City departments as it relates to assigned role.

  • Engages with community, as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Current high school senior or college student with a major or interest in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging work.

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Experience working with community groups or involvement with volunteer community organizations.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:

  • Vehicle Operator's license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City's insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.

REQUIRED SKILLS (Communication/Language; Mathematical; Computer; etc.):

  • Excellent interpersonal, coordination and team building skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in the English language.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet established deadlines.

  • Experience and comfort in communicating with justice-impacted individuals.

OTHER DESIRABLES:

  • Knowledge about local government.

  • An interest in pursuing a career in municipal administration, communications and/or video production.

  • A desire to influence public policy and community development through public service.

  • Flexibility in terms of hours and job requirements.

Talking: The incumbent must have the ability to express or exchange ideas in the English language by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately or quickly.

Hearing: The incumbent perceives the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound.
