Job Description

50% Program Oversight and Administration: Serve as Director of Equity and Impact Programs. Provide direction to oversee the development and implementation of the programs devoted to enhancing pathways to student success while minimizing obstacles. Collaborate with School leadership to ensure programing aligns with strategic mission. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise the work of the program coordinators responsible for recruitment and first year experience programming, Business Opportunity Scholars (BOS) programming, and pre-graduation and recent alumni programming.

  • Coordinate with School's recruitment and eProgram staff, and faculty in other high-performing programs within the School (e.g. BLP, BHP, Finance and Accounting Scholars) to assure student needs and opportunities are met and School resources are efficiently deployed.

  • Work with colleagues in the School, remain current on undergraduate retention trends, population needs and facilitate and coordinate programming to address those needs.

  • Coordinate strategies for implementing policies, procedures, and curriculum changes aimed at increasing retention and completion for challenged populations.

  • Coordinate initiatives to improve retention and completion in the School. Coordinate the facilitation of summer and newly admitted and transfer student orientations.

  • Serve as a liaison and advocate between students in need and academic areas within the School and at the university level as appropriate.

  • Maintain data related to populations served and provide reports to Associate Dean, school leadership as required for University strategic alignment, AACSB accreditation, etc.

  • Collect and assess data for program effectiveness and impact on students, recommending adjustments as necessary to serve students.

  • With colleagues in Communications, disseminate information to students, faculty, and staff, and other groups across campus.

  • Monitor program budget and expenses.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned and as position evolves with dynamic programming needs.

40% Student Retention and Completion Counseling:

  • Provide comprehensive analysis and guidance to School of Business undergraduate and pre-business students with complex academic, financial and/or personal issues to include: degree planning, financial resource planning, academic support services, graduation requirements, academic policy issues, degree certification, and degree auditing.

  • Provide appropriate referral to Area Industry Mentors, eProgram staff, other School faculty/staff, JAA staff, and university offices and resources as needed.

  • Coordinate the probation contracts and closely monitor students that are on school probation.

  • Refer students/matters to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs as appropriate.

10% Service and Other Related Duties:

  • Represent the School of Business on issues related to Equity and Impact Programs.

  • Coordinate the professional development and training of direct reports.

  • Utilize networks and resources to remain current on issues and expand knowledge.

  • Participate as an active team member of the School staff including attending staff meetings and serving on School or University committees, as directed.

  • Complete other duties as assigned related to the position and strategic needs of the School.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, education, communications or similar relevant field with minimum of five years of relevant experience, OR Master's with minimum of three years of relevant experience in student programs: development, counseling, organization, implementation, and/or evaluation experience.

  • Minimum two years supervisory experience.

  • Documented work experience highlighting excellent written and verbal communication skills, adeptness in managing multiple tasks/projects, and strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of business education standards and norms.

  • Familiarity with University of Kansas programs.

  • Experience with direct student counseling, (e.g. academic and/or career advising).

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with diverse people in a variety of situations.
