Equities Trading Applications Support Engineer

Trading Applications Support is the first call for the firm's trading teams regarding their trading needs and trade processing. A candidate in this role interfaces with all US based trading groups, Technology teams, Vendors, Operations, and Prime Brokers. We are looking for a L 1/L2 Trading Applications Support Analyst to join our team in New York, providing trade support to all US trading groups on the firm's proprietary and external trading applications. You will be responsible for resolving client and application issues stemming from use of our trading platforms to executing trades across global markets. The work will be focused to business support, production support, trade issue resolution, project work, trade analysis, client set ups, systems training and application performance monitoring. You will be part of a global support team playing your part to ensure a follow the sun model provides our client base with excellent service.

Principal Responsibilities

Trade Support:

  • Level 1 support - First call for all US based trading groups. Attempt to solve as many issues as possible, escalate issues in a timely manner to level2/subject matter experts (internally or at vendors) when appropriate. Manage communications to the trading staff and internal stakeholders regarding issue/resolution.

  • Trading Infrastructure/Platform Status Communications responsible for disseminating messages to the appropriate trading staff regarding trading infrastructure/platform issues, exchange updates, etc.

  • Supporting and monitoring of the firm's internal systems

  • Incident & Change management

  • Collaborate with other technical support engineers who may need assistance working on an issue; utilize his/her area of expertise to help others in order to most quickly facilitate solutions for the customer.

  • Document and create new knowledge base to provide the most effective solutions to trading issues

  • Level 2 support assist with automating processes to achieve efficiency and streamlined trade support

  • Liaise with development, prioritize tool enhancements, and coordinate and participate in software/new version releases

Trading Platform Management

  • Platform Installs/Updates coordinate with the vendors/internal application owner and tech support to ensure trading platforms are correctly installed, configured, and tested

  • New User Setup- responsible for the setup of new user ids, configuring accounts, product permissions, coordinate with risk for trading limits, coordinate test trades

  • User Trainings- for internal trading applications and coordinate training with vendors for external applications

  • User Migrations- ensure all configurations are correct for traders moving from one platform to another, or changing clearing locations

  • User Deprovisioning / Access Maintenance Perform regular reviews/audits of user ids, access, and permissioning to ensure only necessary ids and technology are deployed for trading

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • 5+ years of experience in a Trade Support / Business Analyst role with similar responsibilities as part of a trade support team at a top Investment Bank, Hedge Fund or other leading Financial Services institution

  • Experience in supporting trading in as many of the following products as possible: Equities, Commodities, Futures, Bonds, FX (Preferably someone stronger on the Equities/Commodities side)

  • Familiarity with middle and back office systems, risk management tools, and with Bloomberg or Reuters market data services is a strong plus

  • Able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment; Good sense of urgency problem management and escalation

  • Strong technical problem solving skills with a good understanding of Unix / Windows environments and intermediate SQL skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Detail oriented, Demonstrates thoroughness and strong ownership of work

  • Quick learner with a demonstrated strong aptitude for learning new technologies and understanding how to utilize them

As an Electronic Trading Operations Representative, you're essential in minimizing impact and mitigating financial risk for our clients across their electronic trading solutions. They'll depend on you to ensure a smooth transition process post sale through to solution go-live. You'll be a key part of our team at the frontline providing specialized technical support and responsible for implementing new electronic trading connections for Bloomberg's clients. We'll Trust You To: * Analyze and troubleshoot issues related to our Electronic Trading products in a production environment * Build and certify new connections, configure applications for these connections, and complete post-production testing * Handle client communication using language appropriate for non-technical users * Prevent production incidents and outages by partnering with Engineering and Product teams to design and implement future system and Product changes * Examine root cause statistics for trends in production issues * Design improvements to existing and new Configuration, Monitoring, and Troubleshooting Support tools * Help prioritize and be responsible for the Product backlog * Conduct capacity planning by analyzing client flows and trading statistics * Help develop metrics for internal consumption and trading system benchmarking * Help design and document trading system recovery procedures * Provide client feedback to the Product team collated through the certification process * Work closely with our clients and our internal Product, Trade desk, and Engineering groups to facilitate expectations, influence and expedite implementation and resolution of issues You'll Need To Have: * 4+ years working experience in similar application support roles * A technical curiosity with a passion for customer service and a genuine interest in financial markets * Extensive experience in UNIX and Linux operating systems and commands * Knowledge of Message Protocols; FIX or MQ is highly preferable * Proven history of solving complex problems with a keen eye for detail * A willingness to learn and apply knowledge * Superb communication and client facing skills * An ability to handle your time effectively and multi-task in a fast paced environment * Good project management skills for executing customer driven short term projects and implementation requests * Ability to remain calm working with urgency, multi-task, be a team-player, be client focused, and to adapt in a dynamic changing environment We'd Love To See: * A Computer Science or Technology related degree * Good working product knowledge of Equity, Options, Futures, Fixed Income and FX market workflows and any exposure to Broker/Dealers, Hedge Funds and Regulatory Reporting requirements. * Experience with SQL or transnational databases and operating large structured and un-structured data sets (such as indexed data and delimited complex system logs) * Exposure to scripting languages, such as Perl, Bash, Korn, and/or Python is highly preferable.
