Performs mechanical repairs requiring adjustments to a variety of Heavy and Light equipment, and performs preventive maintenance. Position supports vehicles and equipment at city Landfills.
Perform all the duties of an equipment technician helper
Repair autos, trucks, heavy and specialized equipment requiring minor and major adjustments to ensure proper levels of performance
Perform daily fluid checks, and lubrication of equipment, fuel and fuel additives as needed.
Perform minor repairs, such as replacement of hydraulic hoses
Repair or replace electrical components
Perform battery maintenance with the knowledge of 12v and 24v systems
Use of welding equipment to make repairs or fabricate metal parts
Perform related duties as directed.
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional two years of experience in automotive mechanics; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Physical Exam Required
Valid CDL class B with Haz-mat endorsement or ability to obtain within 3 months
Knowledge of:
Ability to:
Perform in-depth diagnostics on vehicles.
Operate a variety of automotive diagnostic equipment.
Meet the certification and competency standards established for the position.
Communicate effectively with others.
Use troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Frequently walk and stand during the shift
Frequently climb ladders, stairs and inclined surfaces
Frequently bend and kneel during the shift
Push objects away from oneself
Continuously flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees
Occasionally move body in a crawling motion in order to repair vehicles
Continuously rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing
Frequently reach above, at or below shoulder height
Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle
