Position Summary
The Equipment Support Technician I cleans, prepares, and distributes durable medical equipment issued to patients in the medical center. He/she is responsible for the retrieval, decontamination, inspection, assembly, and storage of all reusable and single-use devices used during the patient's visit.
The Equipment Support Technician I works at all times in compliance with statutory regulations as promulgated by The Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), and any other applicable regulatory agencies. Incumbent may be required to demonstrate specific job duties or functions as required. This position reports to the department Coordinator or senior technician on duty.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
Performs physical inspections on all durable medical equipment. Cleans and disinfects all durable medical equipment in compliance with all applicable statutory regulations.
Maintains a clean, safe work area at all times. Possesses thorough knowledge of cleaning and decontamination procedures for a variety of equipment and instruments. Uses best practices when decontaminating equipment to ensure safety of patients and caregivers.
Regularly performs testing on all durable medical equipment to ensure safety and functionality. Identifies and reports any equipment issues to appropriate personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
1 years prior work experience in equipment support services is preferred. Must have basic knowledge of disinfection and sterilization processes.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSM) certification or certification from the Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) is preferred.
