Under close supervision this position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs requiring adjustments to a variety of automotive equipment.

This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

  • Repairs automobiles, trucks, heavy and specialized equipment requiring minor and major adjustments to ensure proper levels of performance.

  • Inspects vehicles for damage or potential problems.

  • Inspects belts, hoses, brakes and tires and replaces or repair as necessary.

  • Lubricates vehicles, checks and maintains fluids, performs oil changes.

  • Maintains tools and equipment.

  • Cleans vehicles and equipment.

  • Assists in conducting general inspections of vehicles.

  • Provides assistance to Mechanics.

  • Participates in various projects.

  • Keeps immediate supervisor fully and accurately informed on issues.

  • Identifies areas of concern for management for review and potential action.

  • Ensures effective and efficient use of materials, facilities and time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma, plus two (2) years of experience in automotive maintenance and repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certificates

  • Valid driver license equivalent to a New Mexico Class D

Physical Requirements

  • Stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.

  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight.

  • Use repetitive hand movements, fine coordination and manual dexterity which permits the employee to use vehicle maintenance equipment and tools, office equipment and computer systems.

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to permit the employee to discern verbal instructions, use a phone, and communicate with others and drive and operate motorized vehicles.

  • Sufficient visual acuity which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review, evaluate, and prepare a variety of written materials.

Working Conditions

  • Work typically performed in a typical vehicle repair shop with occasional travel to various sites and facilities.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services.

  • Occasional work beyond normal business hours.

  • Required to work on slippery or uneven surfaces, airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic.

  • Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment is required.

  • Position is subject to drug testing and regular driver's license monitoring in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies.
