Position Summary: The Equipment Operator (GAS) is an entry level position in the construction, maintenance and repair of natural gas underground distribution systems. This position works at various locations. The position may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands.

Essential Functions:

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work.

  • Assists with installing underground natural gas piping.

  • Frequently works around live gas systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.

  • Maintains company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.

  • Does all other related work as required to complete the job.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.

  • Understands proper use of company radio.

  • Understands how to safely operate equipment.

  • Understand basic rigging.

  • Understands sloping and shoring requirements.

  • Understand the proper use and maintenance of hand tools.

  • Capable of receiving and following directions.

  • Capable of learning basic knowledge of materials used.

  • Possess a basic knowledge of materials used.

  • Understands the basic concepts of equipment set up.

  • Understands minimum excavation tolerance zones.

  • Capable of installing and removing a service.

  • Understands when to wear personnel protective equipment.

  • Able to identify different types of materials used.

  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.

  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.

  • Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License.

  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.

  • Willing to work over-time when requested.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.

VIEW JOBS 5/9/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-08-07T00:00 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires ten (10) to twelve (12) years of school or equivalent, with a minimum of one (1) years of related experience. Incumbent should have one (1) to three (3) years of specialized knowledge in landscaping. Incumbent must have a current State of Texas Drivers License with appropriate Commercial endorsement (Class B). Incumbent must have current Commercial Drivers License in possession at all times while operating AISD vehicles, which require a CDL. SKILL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the incumbent to be able to handle and operate tractor and mowing equipment, have knowledge of the operation of heavy equipment, and have a knowledge of moving dirt and other needs of this type. Incumbent will need to have knowledge of the care of plants and to be able to use simple hand tools. Incumbent must have skills in rigging loads for lifting, be prompt, reliable, and have a willing attitude to perform a variety of tasks. Incumbent must be able to understand oral and written instructions, and be able to use simple arithmetic. JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY: This position assumes responsibility for a crew, truck, and equipment in performing a wide variety of grounds duties and specialty work. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Maintains all school grounds under supervision. * Operates machinery safely. * Routinely checks equipment and performs preventive maintenance on equipment. * Cuts shrubs, trees, grass and brush in large areas of school grounds and fields. * Operates machinery such as sky hook, winch truck, grader, tractor, post hole digger, air hammer, steam cleaner, mower, sand blaster, forklift, and spray equipment. * Acts as an assistant maintenance apprentice during the winter months or inclement weather. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Care must be exercised in equipment use to prevent burns, cuts, shocks, crushed fingers, back or foot injuries. This position requires the incumbent to be physically strong and in good health and capable of 8 hours work daily; incumbent should be of physical size and condition normally within ranges of insurance companies "normal range" of height to weight. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports directly to the Grounds Crew Leader and to the Supervisor for Buildings and Grounds. Incumbent may provide work direction to lower classified employees. Incumbent will have contact with Austin ISD employees, students, and the general public.
