Job Purpose

The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating the machines required to install the conduit, cables, poles, transformers, pull boxes, transformer pads, and switchgear colors for customers. This position supports the Line team and works with personnel within the department.

Essential Functions

  • Operate jobsite equipment safely.

  • Perform service, safety checks, and minor repairs on machine, check oil and fluids.

  • Slope ditches and/or shore ditches and pits.

  • Load trucks in safe and accident free manner.

  • Observe pipe laying for safety purposes, such as possible cave-ins.

  • Dig around all live utilities, both underground and overhead.

  • Maintain sub-grade and assist in setup grade.

  • Set up center line.

  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent with 1 year of related experience.

  • A valid driver's license.

  • Ability to add and subtract 2 digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Precise hand-eye coordination.

  • Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.

  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Ability to read prints and spot cables.

  • Ability to operate equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of experience.

  • Heavy equipment operator experience and any applicable licensure.

  • OQ Certification.

  • DOT Certified Flagger.

  • A CDL Class A license.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, this role works in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

Job Purpose The CDL Directional Drill Operator/Locator Trainee is responsible for learning how to properly become a Drill Operator/Locator by following job training and instruction safely and efficiently, as provided by the Foreman, Operator, and Locator on the crew. Learn to safely operate the directional drill to place product underground, then locate the drill head to understand elevation changes and make decisions on depths to drill to avoid hitting underground utilities. This position supports the Line team and works with personnel within the department. Essential Functions * Observe and be hands on when appropriate while crew leader is operating the directional drill. * Spot and expose dig utilities for the directional driller so any existing lines are not hit. * Fill out an effective pre-job briefing to mitigate hazards on the job site. * Before taking on the lead role, must know how to properly fill this out before starting any work. * Engage in learning to perform the following tasks: a. Operate the drill rig efficiently. b. Prepare job and drill so that the shot can be performed safely. c. Pothole all utilities that will either be paralleled or crossed during the bore shot. d. Verify existing utilities. e. Fill water tanks with water. f. Combine water with chemicals for boring according to the ground you are drilling in. g. Locate the drill head from point A to point B without hitting any utilities at the correct depth. h. Hook up swivel, reamer, and pipe product that will be pulled back to complete the bore shot. i. Before the bore shot is started, walk out bore shot to ensure all utilities have been located and develop a plan for going above or below each utility or obstacle in the bore path. j. Pull back the product with the correct hole opener and utilize the correct mud mixture to insure that the product makes it from point B to point A. k. Inspect and maintain job equipment. l. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned. Minimum Qualifications 1. A High School Diploma, or equivalent. 2. CDL Class A license with tanker endorsement. 3. Precise hand-eye coordination. 4. Good written and verbal communication skills. 5. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. 6. Ability to identify and distinguish colors of utility flags and markings on the ground. Preferred Qualifications 1. 1 or more years of experience. 2. OSHA 10 Certification. 3.
