ABOUT THIS POSITION
Approximately 48 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2023, one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact of $38 billion annually.
The Aviation Department is seeking Equipment Operator IV*U2 to join their fast-growing team. This position is part of the team operating large and medium heavy equipment in a runway/taxiway/apron movement environment. Work requires considerable skill in operating all types of heavy construction airport equipment such as Asphalt Emulsion Spray equipment, motor graders, low boy trailers, front-end loaders, backhoes, dozers, light and heavy steel rollers, and constant attention to the safety of operation to prevent accidents. Duties include attending training and safety meetings, instructing and training others in the use of heavy-duty equipment, working with a maintenance crew when not operating equipment, serving as a crew leader and directing the work of other employees, having basic computer and math skills for correct calibration of equipment reading and interpreting reports in the field, perceive auditory signals such as various tones, beeps, etc.
This position works 1st shift, an 8-hour shift with workdays Monday through Fridays, hours are 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
Knowledge of 310 and 404 permits.
Knowledge of trenching, shoring, and grade setting.
SALARY
Pay Range: $24.93 to $40.61 per hour.
Hiring Range: $24.93 to $31.82 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified applicants must have the following:
Completion of a departmental training course (certified by Personnel) for equipment being tested.
OR be qualified for "out-of-class" pay as an Equipment Operator IV.
OR log 120 hours on equipment being tested for.
OR have a minimum of two years of experience operating construction equipment or five ton trucks, six months of which must include equipment being tested for.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Current possession of a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) required.
Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
Experience with roadway construction.
Experience operating the lay down box and working with all asphalt applications.
Experience reading blue stake markings and construction plan designs (as-builds).
