JOB SUMMARY
The Equipment Operator III is responsible to operate complex heavy equipment necessary in the maintenance, repair and upkeep of facilities. The Equipment Operator III is responsible for crew leadership, routine maintenance procedures, safe and effective loading and operation, and storage. The Equipment Operator III works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Must be able to read, interpret and follow work orders and procedures as necessary.
Must be able to effectively respond to questions from Management, groups of managers, customers, and the public.
Knowledge of more complex work routines, rules, procedures, or operations; ability to operate higher-level specialized equipment.
Operates specialized equipment, machinery or vehicles, such as heavy construction vehicles, trucks with hydraulic pumping equipment, pressure sprayers, paving equipment, jackhammers, backhoes, or cranes.
Operates light equipment and tools, such as blowers, edging tools, sprayers, shovels, rakes, and brooms.
Removes debris, litter, earth, or pavement; loads material into trucks; locates and excavates underground structures or pipelines; sets poles; clears land or mows grassy areas, such as parks, playgrounds, medians, roadsides and hillsides.
Repairs existing systems, and structures, such as water, sewer, or gas mains, fire hydrants, roadways, or buildings; clears obstructions from pipelines; repairs or cleans structures, and surfaces, including removing graffiti.
Inspects equipment to ensure safe operations.
Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment and tools.
Assembles and loads equipment, tools, materials and supplies according to daily work assignments.
Follows established safety rules and regulations for the safe operation of equipment and machinery, reports accidents, equipment breakage and unsafe conditions to a Supervisor.
Determines amount and type of materials, equipment and/or tools necessary to complete tasks; assigns work; supervises and instructs others.
Completes routine documents and forms, such as work orders, repair requests, reports and logs.
Education and Experience
High school graduation or GED plus one year of experience.
Special Certifications and License
Job requires a current, valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License, as required by State Law for the operation of heavy machinery and trucks.
Independence and Judgement
Average judgment; must recognize and resolve problems such as bad grammar, type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination, when to change or sharpen blade on mower, whether there is a problem/malfunction with a piece of equipment that needs attention, etc.; may involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules.
Initiative and Ingenuity
Low chance of error because work is routine/repetitive/simple/reviewed carefully; standard procedures: don't have to come up with creative solutions; refers anything unusual to supervisor. Occasionally requires interpretation of available options to apply to non-standard situations, day-to-day work drives priorities.

Physical Demands
Considerable heavy muscular effort or exertion but not continuous or long- sustained; demands more than ordinary strength or endurance, such as shoveling, carrying, etc. Ability to exert up to 35-50 lbs. of force occasionally or a negligible amount of energy frequently to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Responsibility for Equipment and Property
Responsible for high-risk or valuable items, such as big, expensive equipment, including light and heavy machinery, plant equipment, multiple computers and computer networks, etc.
Working Conditions
Frequent exposure to outdoor elements; job often (several times per week) exposes person to physical danger; serious space problems; frequent situations that cause stress and tension in the execution of regular duties.
Other Requirements
