3.PAY GRADE: 120 (Non-exempt)
4.SALARY: $33,988.00 (through July 7, 2024)
$35,008.00 (effective July 8, 2024)
5.JOB TYPE: Full-time
6.REPORTS TO: Assistant Supervisor - Storm Water, or their designee
7.GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK OF THE POSITION:
This is a skilled manual work position involving repairs and improvements to all aspects of our storm water system. The incumbent of this position is also responsible for the operation of medium to heavy trucks, necessary tools, and occasional operation of some construction equipment.
Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient work efforts assigned. The employee is responsible for the cleanliness, servicing, and light maintenance of assigned equipment, and is expected to report any equipment problems to the Assistant Storm Water Supervisor. Standard procedures are followed, and work is inspected periodically for completeness and safety during the workday.
Works overtime as needed and in various weather conditions with possible exposure to odors, fumes, dust, lower levels of toxic conditions. Has risk of bodily injury and does any other work as assigned. Shall be on call when necessary.
8.DUTIES OF THE POSITION (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):
On occasion or on a training basis, operates one or more of the following equipment: backhoe, front-end loader, high lift, vacuum truck, small roller, and culvert flusher. Does work as a laborer or semi-skilled laborer.
Performs minor servicing and maintenance of assigned equipment and refers any problems to the Storm Water Assistant Supervisor. Transports men and equipment to and from job site. Operates a dump truck in connection with hauling job materials.
Operates dump truck with snowplow and material spreader during ice and snow removal periods and shall be on call when necessary. Finishes cement, work site restorations, constructs and repairs drop inlets, assist with laying of storm sewer pipe. Other duties as assigned.
9.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent may direct activities of others at job site.
Knowledge of heavy construction equipment and mechanical operation; good knowledge of traffic and safety rules and accident prevention practices. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to note and report needed equipment repairs, ability to carry out storm water maintenance and minor construction assignment with a minimum of supervision; good organizational sense in the supervising of subordinate employees; good physical condition; ability to lay blocks and interpret and make field drawings.
High School Diploma, experience in the operations of heavy automotive and construction equipment. Must possess a valid WV Class B, CDL license with tank endorsement or must obtain CDL permit within 180 days and a CDL license with air brakes and tanker endorsement within one year of hire date and a combination of experience and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. As a condition of employment an acknowledgment regarding CDL requirements must be signed.

While performing the daily duties of this position, the employee is required to walk, sit, stand, bend, climb stairs, walk on uneven surfaces, walk on slippery surfaces, crouch, crawl, kneel, stoop, and using hands for reaching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement. The nature of the work requires the incumbent to climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and performing maintenance on assigned equipment. Additionally, the employee will be required, at times, to lift, carry or push/pull supplies, materials, equipment and/or items weighing up to 50 pounds while performing the duties of this position.
Work is primarily conducted outdoors in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. Daily duties may require the use of cleaning and lubricating chemicals. Employee will be frequently exposed to odors, fumes, toxic conditions, air contaminants, dusty and/or greasy conditions, high levels of noise and risk of bodily injury.
