Under general supervision, performs duties related to the operation of heavy equipment in support of special projects including operating mobile equipment, rigging, suspended loads, equipment lubing, equipment fueling, and handling of ACB mats. Work in project, mobile construction environment with tight finish grade and production expectations.
Performs general labor duties which may include but is not limited to: use of ground tools, shovels, hand tools and power tools
Operates heavy mobile equipment which may include but is not limited to:haul trucks, water truck, excavators, track dozers, motor graders, and front end loaders
Safely handles and supports placement of articulated concrete block (ACB) mats
Completes rigging and suspended loads; this includes securing loads within appropriate load limits and assembling rigging to lift and move equipment/materials
Performs minor maintenance activities such as lubing and fueling equipment
Perform other duties as required
Six (6) months of mobile equipment operating experience, to include at least two different types of equipment
Knowledge of equipment components and practices that reduce component damage and wear
Ability to identify and stop unsafe conditions
High School diploma or GED
Experience in Heavy Civil Construction, including road construction, production, finish, underground
Experience in the following: revetment, structural, concrete, piping, culvert (DOT) specifications, welding, surveying
Handling articulated concrete block (ACB) mats, equipment lubing and fueling procedures, rigging and suspended loads
Willing and able to travel and find own lodging to live temporarily near work locations which vary depending on project, from the beginning of the work week to the end of the work week
Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
This is a Safety sensitive role, requiring clearance to be fit-for-duty through a pre-employment physical
Employee may be required to work in environments that may include exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, noise, fumes, and gasses
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on uneven work surfaces and work on elevated platforms
Frequently may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
Must be willing and able to travel and live temporarily at the work sites which vary depending on project, from the beginning of the work week to the end of the work week
Current schedule consists of 10 hours a day, 4 days a week and frequently includes overtime and the possibility of additional days worked; schedule may vary depending on project requirements
Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and, as needed: respirator, rubber steel-toed boots, gloves, fall protection, protective clothing, goggles, face shield and other protective equipment as required
