The essential duties for this job include:

  • Adjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts to include anti-locking systems.

  • Analyzes and interprets computerized diagnostic equipment information.

  • Assists in coordinating or coordinates with warehouse on ordering parts, EOS and Material and Supply Management Systems (MSMS) corrections and purchase orders on all outside equipment repairs.

  • Checks lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, tail lights and parking lights.

  • Completes repair order paperwork.

  • Operates specialized power tools.

  • Orders, picks up and delivers parts, materials, tools, and operates equipment and vehicles to include heavy equipment.

  • Performs annual state safety inspections on vehicles to include DOT required inspections.

  • Performs preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment; as required moves items related to these activities.

  • Prepares vehicles for use by checking for required safety features such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers and mobile radios.

  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

  • Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining equipment of the trade

  • Brake repairs to include anti-locking systems, mechanical brakes, air brakes and hydraulic brake systems

  • The use of applicable electronic test equipment

  • Diagnosing problems and repairing equipment to include electronic and mechanical components and subsystems according to defined codes and specifications

Education

This job requires the following:

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies

Work Experience

This job requires the following:

Equipment Mechanic II

  • 3 years in in Automotive, mechanical, equipment or vehicle body repair

Equipment Mechanic III

  • 4 years in in Automotive, mechanical, equipment or vehicle body repair

Equipment Mechanic IV

  • 5 years in in Automotive, mechanical, equipment or vehicle body repair

(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

No supervisory experience required.

College education and /or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications

The following Licenses and/or Certifications are required for this job:

  • Mtr Veh St Inspector-Licensed

  • Safety Impact Certificate

  • Commercial Driver Certificate

  • Valid Class C Driver's license at time of application

  • This is a Safety Impact position (either Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crew Member) and will be subject to random drug testing.

  • Must have or obtain within up to 120 calendar days from date of employment a State safety vehicle inspector's license.
