Big-D has an opportunity for an Equipment Mechanic (Fuel/Lube) to join our team of construction professionals based in North Salt Lake City, UT. This position will oversee the preventative maintenance program of our fleet and equipment to include fuel/lube and related responsibilities.
Education/Experience Requirements:
Certification/License Requirements
Must possess a valid state driver license
Regulated driver and medical card
Forklift certification is preferred but not required
Must have Class B CDL
Critical Skills:
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to operate hand tools and basic power tools
Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices used in construction and maintenance
Understanding of technical operation, service, or repair manuals
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Ability to make decisions and problem solve
Ability to work varied shifts or extended hours, as required
Working small to large equipment.
Unleaded and diesel engine units.
Hydraulic knowledge.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Good time management skills
Have great communication skills and be able to work well with customers
Regular, timely, and predictable attendance is required for this position
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)
Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment, and repairs or replaces defective items as necessary, using hand tools and power tools
Assembles, installs, or repairs wiring, electrical, and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment
Diagnoses minor mechanical problems, and determines the proper repair method, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary
Plans and lays out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams
Inspects, operates, and tests machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunction
Maintains maintenance logs
Operates cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
Fabricates, assembles, or disassembles manufactured products by hand
Reads work orders, instructions, formulas, or processing charts
Records type and cost of maintenance or repair work
Fuels equipment on job sites
Provides written documentation of repair work completed
Orders parts, supplies, and equipment from suppliers, or obtains them from storage or Big-D's yard
Reads schematics or technical drawings
Follows all DOT Safety rules and regulations

The employee may be required to lift heavy objects in awkward positions that require flexible range of motion. Specific vision abilities include close vision and peripheral vision. The employee is also required to frequently inspect the project and will be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions, including rain, sleet, snow, wind, and heat. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. The employee is also required to frequently walk on uneven surfaces. Safety requirements necessitate no language barrier exist between employees and supervisors.
Requires lifting, bending, stooping, carrying, climbing, and getting in and out of the vehicle throughout the day. Driver's drive various trucks, sometimes driving for long periods of time.
Hazards: May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold as well as certain unsafe environments; occasionally works near moving equipment and mechanical parts and electrical equipment; possible exposure to fumes or airborne particles; possible exposure to internal liquids. This is a safety sensitive position where a momentary lapse of attention can result in serious injury or death. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally very loud. Must follow all safety requirements carefully.
