GENERAL SUMMARY

• Equipment Mechanic I is responsible for the general and preventative maintenance repair to City Vehicles.

SUPERVISION

• General supervision is provided by the Equipment Services Senior Supervisor during the day or Equipment Services Shift Supervisor at night. All assignments are presented with detailed instructions before beginning the project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in chapter 8 of the

General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.

• Repairs and replaces defective and worn parts in City vehicles, e.g. starters, alternators, brakes,batteries, belts, hoses and tires; performs minor electrical work.

• Performs preventative maintenance functions including replacing oil and oil filters and performing engine tune-ups to engines. Performs State of Texas vehicle inspections.

• Cleans and maintains equipment and shop tools. Performs housekeeping duties. Prepares new vehicles and equipment to be placed into service.

• Assists with various projects as requested.

• Cleans and maintains equipment and shop tools.

• Keeps track of repair times, materials and records in the FASTER fleet management System.

• Must furnish own hand tools.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• Technical Training: May require up to 18 months of vocational education/training in automotive, Med/Heavy Truck or equipment maintenance or repair (i.e., NIASE).

EXPERIENCE

• No experience is required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

• A valid Class A Texas Commercial driver's license and compliance with the City of Mesquite's driving policy within 6 months of hiring.

• Must obtain a Texas Department of Public Safety/Emissions Inspection Certification within 6 months of hire.

• Preference will be given to applicants that are currently attending or have completed training at an accredited technical college, and/or have current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.

WORK SCHEDULES

• Available to work a full40-hourwork week.

• Monday - Friday; from 12 noon to 8:30 p.m.
