Engineering and Public Works Division: West Equipment Maintenance Opening Date: 05/20/2024 Closing Date: 8/20/2024 11:59 PM Central Summary This is the first of five levels in the Equipment Maintenance series. Incumbents perform routine and standard vehicle and equipment maintenance on a variety of vehicles and/or equipment.

Responsibilities may include utilizing hand and electrical tools; changing oil; checking fluids; balancing, repairing and replacing tires; operating light, medium and heavy equipment; and maintaining a record of repairs. Incumbents may prepare vehicles for operation by mixing pesticides. Examples of Duties (The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

Performs preventative maintenance and servicing activities which, depending on assignment, may include changing oil; changing filters; applying lubricants; checking fluid levels; inspecting brakes and tires; and performing other related activities. Uses and maintains hand, power and shop tools and equipment related to the work.

Completes a variety of logs, documents, and/or simple reports regarding quantity of materials handled, equipment operations, vehicle conditions, maintenance and repair activities, and/or other related information. May mix and service spray trucks to include downloading GPS information, completing spray logs, mixing/loading pesticides and calibration of spray equipment when necessary. May ready spray trucks for nighttime spraying by setting driver schedules, preparing work logs, and maps.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not require supervisory responsibilities. Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and some technical training in vehicle maintenance; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement. 8a Commercial Pesticide Certifications within the first year per department's requirement. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. SKILLS Performing entry level vehicle and/or equipment maintenance and repairs in assigned area of responsibility; Preparing operational logs, records, and reports; Using and caring for applicable tools and equipment; Using a computer and related software applications; Understanding pesticide labels to ensure safety when handling these products in Mosquito Control; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, chemicals, and intense noises.

The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. UNIFORM An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.

The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement. WORK SCHEDULES Varied work schedules allow our employees excellent work-life balance.

Schedules vary by department and include the following: Part-time Full-time Temporary Rotating shifts 12-hour shifts 4/10s 9/80s 5/8s VACATION Vacation with pay begins accruing from date of employment. SICK LEAVE Sick leave begins accruing from the date of employment.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION A supplemental tax-free retirement account is offered through Nationwide Retirement Solutions. Contribution is the responsibility of the employee via payroll deduction. Supplemental Life and AD & D Employee can purchase term additional Life/AD & D in increments of $10,000 up to a maximum of $500,000.Term Life/AD & D is also available for an employee's spouse and eligible dependents.
