The Position:

The Equipment Maintenance Technician will maintain, repair, and install food service (kitchen) related equipment as required throughout the Indianapolis Campus and other duties as assigned for the efficient operation of the Maintenance Department. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and

operation of all food service (kitchen) systems at campus facilities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of food service (kitchen) and refrigeration systems.

  • Install new food service (kitchen) and refrigeration equipment when required.

  • Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.

  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all food service (kitchen) and refrigeration equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensers and coils.

  • Perform all scheduled preventive maintenance and cleaning on all food service (kitchen) and refrigeration equipment as needed.

  • Assist energy manager to complete energy conservation surveys to realize most efficient, cost-effective use of food service (kitchen) and refrigeration energy.

  • Receive and complete work orders.

  • Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.

  • Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.

  • Maintain inventory of facilities department tools, equipment, and materials related to kitchen equipment.

  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.

  • Work with facilities leadership and supervisors to complete projects.

  • Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier lifting or movement tasks with assistance.

  • Move safely up and down stairs, service ramps, and/or ladders.

  • Must be able to travel to buildings within the Indianapolis service area utilizing College vehicles.

  • Must be able to hold or obtain an Indiana driver's license.

  • Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures.

Education and Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Individual must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the College insurance carrier.

  • Significant physical effort is needed.

  • Required to work on ladders, work over your head, heavy lifting (over 50 lbs repetitively), twisting, bending and exposure to hot and cold environments.

  • The successful candidate must also have the ability to follow oral and written instructions competently.

  • Knowledge of commercial food service (kitchen) equipment repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques Knowledge in the operation of electrical control systems Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material Ability to operate a computer and assigned software Ability to perform mathematical calculations Ability to diagnose and resolve problems Ability to use hand and power tools

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in an academic or state organization.

  • Industry-related training and certifications

Starting Salary Range: $24.00 - $28.00/hourly
