Job Description

Pine Bush Equine Services and Veterinary Hospital is hiring 2024/2025 Interns!

EQUINE INTERN is wanted for a growing ambulatory practice supported by a fully equipped and staffed hospital with competent, experienced practitioners with decades of experience from whom to learn. We mentor and support a collaborative team-work environment with an emphasis on helping each other and providing excellent customer service.

WE ARE A WELL ESTABLISHED AND RESPECTED equine clinic in the beautiful Hudson Valley of New York State. The area provides an array of horses and disciplines with which to work, allowing our doctors to find their niche.

Video endoscopy, gastroscopy, dynamic endoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasonography, and nuclear scintigraphy and the Equinosis Lameness Locator provide plenty of diagnostic opportunities when working-up cases. There is an 11-stall barn with climate-controlled treatment areas and stalls for more challenging cases or when it is simply more convenient to work in a hospital environment. Pine Bush Equine Services and Veterinary Hospital (PBES + VH) offers shockwave therapy; regenerative therapies including iRap, ProStride, and PRP, and alpha-2-macroglobulin; laser therapy; and power floats to aid in treatment. We perform over 250 elective surgeries a year at the hospital, offering excellent options for our clients.

PBES + VH HAS A STRONG HISTORY of quality care in this community. It was established over 50 years ago in 1969 by Dr.

Howard Gill. Dr. Gill moved to this area after leaving his faculty position at Michigan State University. Today, PBES+ VH is now owned by world-renowned equine surgeon and lameness expert, Dr.

Mike Ross. Dr. Ross spent most of his career at the University of Pennsylvania but has been a consulting surgeon at PBES+VH since the 1980s. In addition, there are three other full-time veterinarians.

For years our well-established internship program, one or two interns each year, has successfully placed graduates in residency and fellowship programs or our former interns take positions in prestigious private practices. PBES + VH prides itself on its long tradition of quality equine medicine and surgery.

WE OFFER this position at $40,000 a year plus housing. We believe in offering strong mentorship as well as hands-on experience.

The intern participates in on-call responsibility, management of in-patient, out-patient, and ambulatory cases. There is always a senior clinician assigned as a mentor and support for our interns and to help by phone consultation and in-person support when requested or needed. The internship begins with accompanying senior practitioners until competence and confidence has been developed with handling emergency cases and a New York license to practice has been obtained.

The practice schedules appointments Monday through Friday and offers 24/7 emergency coverage for our clients. Although we have an active elective surgery caseload, we refer most of our emergency surgeries to local referral hospitals.

PBES + VH IS LOCATED IN ORANGE COUNTY NEW YORK in the beautiful and exciting Hudson Valley. The area is rural with beautiful, rugged mountains and lots of history and culture but within 60 miles of exciting mid-town Manhattan.

The Hudson Valley offers a multitude of hiking and outdoor activities. There is an acclaimed wine-growing region in the Hudson Valley with many wineries and restaurants to experience. Angry Orchard and Tuthilltown Distillery are minutes from the clinic.

Music and arts abound in nearby communities of New Paltz and Woodstock. The horse racing scene is vibrant with Monticello Racetrack 40 minutes from the clinic and the historic Goshen Racetrack less than 30. The Hudson Riverfront has plenty of dining and boating and fishing opportunities.

Pine Bush is 1.5 hours from the Pocono Mountains' recreational area known for its hiking and skiing and 3.5 hours from ski areas in Killington, VT. Forbes rated the Hudson Valley as one of 2020's top destinations. https://www.forbestravelguide.com/destinations/hudson-valley-new-york/travel-guide

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A PRACTICE that offers a diverse clientele from large breeding farms to beloved back yard horses, from Standardbred racing to Prix St. Georges dressage, from reining to Grand Prix jumpers, or from reproductive work to surgery, this practice can offer you that opportunity.

See how our experienced team works together to offer clients the best care and service for their horses. Enjoy using advanced technologies to best-serve clients and treat horses in the beautiful mountains of culturally rich southeastern New York.

Graduate degree in Veterinary Medicine, resume, or curriculum vitae with three letters of reference and a valid driver's license required.
