ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Equal Opportunity Department is a regulatory agency that works in a variety of ways to achieve its mission in the areas of fair housing, employment, accessibility, public accommodations, and economic opportunity for businesses. The division is comprised of two sections: Business Certification and Contract Compliance.

The Compliance and Enforcement Division of the Equal Opportunity Department currently has one vacancy for an Equal Opportunity Programs Assistant. This position is responsible for providing paraprofessional support to the Compliance and Enforcement Division team. Support activities include: answering the Compliance & Enforcement main telephone line; conducting employment, fair housing and public accommodation intake consultations with employees and / or the community; assisting Equal Opportunity Specialists in developing and conducting Equal Opportunity training programs; assisting in collecting and compiling complaint information/data; statistical research and analysis; producing reports related to programs/activities of the department; organization and implementation of conferences, workshops and events; and other administrative duties as assigned.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, stressful environment.

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal anti-discrimination laws to include the Federal Fair Housing Act, the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Proficient at Microsoft Office, database management, and other software applications (i.e., Webex, Teams, SAP, Outlook).

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

SALARY

Pay Range:$26.18 to $ 47.01 per hour.

Hiring Range: $26.18 to $35.08 per hour.

Pay Range Explanation:

  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.

  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in equal opportunity.

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, business administration, personnel, or law.

  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Work experience consistent with labor compliance job requirements or civil rights advocacy.

  • Experience providing high quality customer service with internal and external customers or clients.

  • Experience providing paraprofessional support to a large team.

  • Experience working with databases, including data entry and troubleshooting.

  • Experience composing, writing, and submitting reports, ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Bilingual (English/ Spanish).
