The primary roles of the Epidemiology Unit Manager are providing cohesive direction to a team of epidemiologists in the Lansing and Detroit offices regarding HIV/STD reports and activities, and conducting analysis and interpretation of surveillance data. Duties include supervising HIV/STD epidemiologists, working with other unit managers to set and complete objectives, performing data analyses, helping to resolve database issues and presenting data to groups as requested. This position also provides support and consultation to other units within the HIV and STD Division.

Possession of a master's degree in epidemiology or public health with a minimum of 8 semester (12 term) graduate-level hours in epidemiology and biostatistics courses.


Four years of professional experience equivalent to an Epidemiologist, including three years equivalent to an Epidemiologist P11, two years equivalent to an Epidemiologist 12, or one year equivalent to an Epidemiologist Manager 13 or Epidemiologist Specialist 13.

Assists in the design and planning of studies, oversees database development and management, and aids in the analysis of data. Responsible for various tasks associated with the recruitment of study subjects and acquisition of data for biomedical studies. Trains and oversees study personnel. May be expected to present an abstract at a national scientific meeting. Expected to participate in journal clubs and keep current with epidemiological literature and methods. May assist Investigators in development of abstracts, posters and manuscripts. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists in the design and planning of epidemiological studies. Assumes duties as assigned by the Investigator. 2. Assists in developing and testing of data collection instruments. 3. Oversees database development and management. 4. Trains and oversees study personnel. Coordinates quality control activities. 5. Assists other epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and clinical investigators in the analysis and interpretation of data obtained from studies. 6. Responsible for the identification, recruitment and follow up of study subjects. May meet with study subjects and/or study personnel at external sites. 7. Conducts library research, writes literature reviews, develops procedure manuals and report formats. 8. Compiles progress or status reports on varying aspects of each study. 9. Responsible for IRB applications, progress reports, etc. 10.May be responsible for oversight of project specific budgets. 11.Performs other related duties as necessary.
