GDIT is hiring an Epidemiologist to provide data management, analytic, and visualization support for our program with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); the Center for Global Health. As part of the interagency collaboration established by the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR); CDC's Division of Global HIV and Tuberculosis (DGHT), the Health Informatics Data Management and Statistics Branch (HIDMSB) has been entrusted with stewardship of PEPFAR data and analytics to monitor the impact of HIV programs and services and inform future investment strategies. Global HIV/AIDS organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations also rely on these data for planning and decision-making. The Interagency Collaborative for Program Improvement (ICPI) operates in a continuous learning process, focusing not just on analytics, but also working to engage PEPFAR stakeholders in analysis and data use. ICPI is partnering with GDIT, to navigate multiple challenges that could impact the timeliness, completeness, and quality of PEPFAR data and analytics.

In this environment, team members support key processes in the development and functionality in PEPFAR data systems; provide support in data access, processing, and management from multiple data sources (e.g., programmatic, financial, and data from related surveys and surveillance activities); develop analytic datasets, create analytic and visualization tools including interactive dashboards; support training and capacity building; and provide technical assistance to PEPFAR US Government field staff. Those with prior experience working with CDC, PEPFAR, and/or global health NGOs are encouraged to apply as well as those with global health work set outside of the United States. Candidates must be comfortable and experienced with data management and data analysis of data from different sources and formats including the compilation of large amounts of data.

Position is for full time employment with GDIT and will work from the customer's office in downtown DC (metro accessible on the Orange or Blue line to Farragut West and then walk two blocks to the building).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance in data management, analysis, and visualizations to DGHT headquarters and field staff.

  • Develop and deploy tools in R and Shiny to enhance the use of program improvement in the field.

  • Develop dashboards in R Shiny, MS Excel, MicroStrategy, Socrata, and/or Tableau.

  • Produce technical reports/presentations and/or manuscripts using programmatic data.

  • Conduct trainings on ICPI developed tools.

  • Develop methods, processes, or checks to assess and improve the quality of PEPFAR data across the data life cycle from reporting, entry, access, extraction, and use .

  • Improve the efficiency and fidelity with which data are accessed, managed and wrangled, from various data systems used by PEPFAR.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required -

  • Bachelors degree and 3+ years experience, MS degree preferred

  • Understanding of principles and applications in data management using SQL, SAS, Stata, and/or R

  • Experience in quantitative analytics

  • Proficient with MS Excel

Desired -

  • Strong experience in R and Shiny is preferred

  • Experience using MicroStategy, Socrata, and/or Tableau is preferred

  • Experience using GIS applications and basic knowledge of mapping principles is preferred

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Good oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate assignments and requests

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a team member

  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage multiple priorities that are subject to change

  • Must be detail-oriented and possess critical thinking skills

Training must include epidemiology, biostatistics, and surveillance systems. * Ability to provide coordination and direction in the area of surveillance and epidemiology. * Knowledge of appropriate methods to analyze health‐related data. * Ability to plan and administer epidemiological studies. * Skills in utilizing computer technology to manage information and design data management systems for epidemiological data. * Experience with formal evaluation of surveillance systems in the analysis of data collected in surveillance and tracking systems and in the interpretation and presentation of the results in written, oral and graphic formats. * Public health experience in an international setting is preferred. * Familiarity and experience with the Department of State's overseas medical program is preferred. * May be required to perform TDY travel. * A secret clearance level is required for this position.
