This posting will fill position EP156 and EP158. This position will meet the goals and objectives of the supplemental HIV surveillance Medical Monitoring Project (MMP); conducts epidemiologic investigations by assisting with on site review of facilities and procedures, as well as all MMP patient recruitment, interviewing, and medical record abstraction activities from other health entities; serves as a recognized public health consultant on MMP-related issues, including providing technical assistance to requesting facilities on the application of advanced scientific and technical MMP methods and practices; reports key findings from the MMP surveillance system and supports surveillance system evaluation; assists with analyses and report preparation of MMP data pertinent to the HIV population using established epidemiologic techniques; uses established data confidentiality procedures for the protection of personally identifiable information; assists with the completion of Institutional Review Board requirements; initiates a working relationship with HIV care providers and maintains regular communications with them to ensure attainment of MMP project goals; and uses software tools for data quality activities for continuous and timely quality improvements in data accuracy, program review, and data standardization.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience conducting standardized surveys/interviews. Experience reviewing medical records to abstract information.

Experience with data quality assurance (QA) techniques. Experience with recruiting participation for a study or project. Experience with investigative/ locating techniques. Extensive travel and a valid Virginia driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with diverse populations. Knowledge of HIV epidemiology, including testing, methodology, policies, and procedures.

Experience working in public health, including with epidemiologic surveillance activities. Degree with advanced coursework in public health or relevant experience. Experience analyzing and interpreting statistical data.

The mid-level epidemiologist is responsible for conducting epidemiologic investigations and/or assessments, participating in surveillance activities, conducting epidemiologic studies to include data analysis and dissemination, and consulting on scientific and technical issues. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of the cause, transmission, treatment, and prevention of communicable diseases and other conditions of public health importance. Knowledge of methods of public health surveillance and program evaluation. Working knowledge, ability and experience in biostatistics, statistical data analysis, and data management. Demonstrated ability to develop program goals and objectives and to evaluate program effectiveness. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, and to function within a productive and motivated team. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with stakeholders, partners, and the general public. Experience in epidemiology, public health, research or a related area. Preferred Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with advanced course work in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or program evaluation or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Demonstrated ability of project management. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Some knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies regarding the practice of dental health and oral health prevention. Intermediate or advanced knowledge of statistical software packages: SAS, R, ArcGIS, Tableau, etc. Experience with database management systems, especially those used to manage population-based disease data.
