Laulima Government Solutions is looking for a qualified Epidemiologist/Biostatistician II to support the development of data records for Veterans who were potentially exposed to ionizing radiation, chemicals and toxic agents, or other hazards during active duty military service. The availability of these data would enable VHA to conduct epidemiologic studies of diseases among Veterans and to assess the short- and long-term effects of exposure to military-related environmental and occupational hazards. This position is located in Washington, DC.

Studies/Cohorts supported may include:

  • Agent Orange Registry

  • Gulf War Registry

  • Airborne Hazards and Open Pit Registry

  • Operation Tomodachi Registry

  • McMurdo Cohort

  • Aviation Fuels Cohort (including F-100 pilots exposed to cockpit oil mists)

  • Chemical Warfare Agents Cohort from OIF & OND

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Possesses knowledge in designated field or discipline.

  • Significant experience providing solutions to an organization's challenges through the application of knowledge gained from prior experience.

  • Contributes to the implementation of strategy and helps assess the impact of industry trends, policy, or standard methodologies.

  • She/he directs the activities of other staff as necessary on activities related to the specified field or discipline.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Required Education:

  • PhD in Epidemiology, Statistics and/or Survey Methods.

  • Preferred Education:

  • Advanced education in Public Health, Biostatistics, Statistics, or Health Sciences, such as Master's in Public Health, Masters of Science, or PhD.

  • Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of post-dissertation experience using advanced statistical methods with relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Experience in areas including research involving survey sampling design; data collection and management; techniques for maximizing response rates; programming; statistical analysis; and report writing.

CLEARANCE:

  • A favorable government agency background check will be needed to qualify for the position.

Position Description: This position is in the Bureau of Medical Services (MED) and helps provides the Department of State with epidemiological data about outbreaks of illnesses and occurrence of injuries among the US government workforce and family members serving overseas. Qualifications: * Must have an advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) in epidemiology, public health or a related field of a bachelor's degree in public health from an accredited College or University approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. Training must include epidemiology, biostatistics, and surveillance systems. * Ability to provide coordination and direction in the area of surveillance and epidemiology. * Knowledge of appropriate methods to analyze health‐related data. * Ability to plan and administer epidemiological studies. * Skills in utilizing computer technology to manage information and design data management systems for epidemiological data. * Experience with formal evaluation of surveillance systems in the analysis of data collected in surveillance and tracking systems and in the interpretation and presentation of the results in written, oral and graphic formats. * Public health experience in an international setting is preferred. * Familiarity and experience with the Department of State's overseas medical program is preferred. * May be required to perform TDY travel. * A secret clearance level is required for this position.
