The Alaka'ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a potential need for an Epidemiologist to provide technical and professional services for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), Division of Vector Borne Diseases (DVBD) out of Fort Collins, CO.
Managing the arboviral surveillance system (ArboNET) and other related arboviral surveillance activities.
Providing epidemiology, surveillance, and data management support.
Providing data management of the ADB surveillance system.
Ensuring that appropriate state partners maintain access to the surveillance system.
Performing routine data downloads to the central database.
Running SAS program to identify any abnormal findings in the data (e.g., clinical symptoms do not match reported clinical syndrome; arbovirus in new area not previously documented, pregnant male, etc.).
Communicating with appropriate partner at state health department to resolve and/or investigate issues.
Generating routine reports during the transmission season using SAS, ArcGIS, and Access with descriptive analyses.
Sending emails and communication of PDF reports to all state partners and state epidemiologists;
Updating reports on the CDC websites.
Responding to internal and external surveillance data requests.
Determining what data can be provided according to a data release policy to create data. sets/figures/tables/etc. per the request in the format requested.
Creating data tables using SAS, R, Access, and Excel; shade and dot maps using SAS, R, or ArcGIS; and other charts, graphs and diagrams using SAS, R, and Excel.
Creating slides for presentations and publications.
Reconciling surveillance data with state and local health partners.
Participating in biweekly conference calls.
Providing subject matter expertise related to the ArboNET surveillance system.
Maintaining Office of Management and Budget approval for the collection of surveillance data.
Working closely with the informatics staff to onboard states to HL7 messaging for arboviral surveillance.
Maintaining standard operational procedures for all data management activities.
Working closely with the informatics staff to address technical issues related to reporting.
Collaborating with medical officers and epidemiologists on other activities, including data analysis, special studies, and manuscripts.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to manage data and conduct descriptive analyses using SAS statistical analysis software.
Must have intermediate to advanced SAS programming skills.
Must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Access and Excel.
Must be able to travel.
